just got this in my email.

The National Weather Service has dropped most severe weather watches and warnings for the New Orleans metro area, but not before at least three tornados touched down south and west of the city Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency management officials confirm tornados touched down in Terrytown and Myrtle Grove on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, and in Montz, St. Charles Parish. In all three cases, there was no damage or reports of injuries.

There were also several reports of funnel clouds that did not touch the ground, including one at the intersection of Causeway and Veterans Boulevard in Metairie.

Immediately following the storms, some 20,000 people lost power. Entergy reported 9,000 outages, mostly in New Orleans East. There were 9,000 outages reported by the Washington/St. Tammany Electric Cooperative, and scattered outages reported by CLECO in Slidell, Mandeville, Madisonville and Covington.

Eyewitnesses also reported the facade of the former Texaco building at Canal and LaSalle Streets was torn off by high winds. New Orleans Police blocked off part of Canal Street to keep pedestrians and traffic out of danger.

I work at Causeway and I-10, and there were some nasty clouds, but nothing other than that and some rain. Power was fine. Apparently we lost power at some point here in MidCity.

I went without power for most of the day today but the tornado threat remained farther south. The atmosphere was favorable for brief tornadoes from low topped or embedded cells near the gulf coast. The atmosphere was not conducive to strong or long tracked tornadoes like last week in Tn, Ar, Ms and Al.

A lot of wind over here earlier. Took the roof off of one store. I haven't seen anything other than that. To my knowledge, no one is hurt here. Although, there was a pretty gruesome story about a woman in Tangipahoa.

Dang. I'm on the 23rd floor of Canal Place and we had some VERY strong winds, and some very dark clouds, but nothing more. My wife works in the Energy Center, and the glass in one of the revolving doors got blown out.

I have family that live in Montz and they are without power right now. However the power should be restored within the next half an hour according to the power company. There wasnt any damage according to my sister.

Other than the store that lost its lid, the only other damage I saw was where they are building that new floodwall on Peters road near Boomtown Casino. One of those huge red cranes was collapsed back on itself and totally wrecked.. Im guessing they were shut down for the day because of weather, because the site was empty and I saw no emergency vehicles when I passed there around 5:15.
