Trade Alvin Kamara in Offseason (1 Viewer)

Right. I wont argue with that. My only argument is, we are about to rebuild without draft picks or cap room. So a quick rebuild probably isnt going to happen. So do you trade kamara while he still has value, or do you drag him through a rebuild - so when you come out on the other side he is a 9/10 year NFL vet. A 9/10 year NFL RB is almost always well on their way to the end of their career.
His cap hit is too much to trade him this offseason. Maybe 2024, but not this one. No way to absorb a ~20m hit.

Stop it, who looks good in this offense this year?! Even Olave could look way better with a real HC and OC. Not saying I give players a pass but you can’t just say a player is on the decline when the team even admitted then didn’t know how to get him the ball the first 5 weeks.
That’s fine but you’re missing the point. What good is there in having a currently valuable asset on the team who we don’t know how to use? And what use is there in having a top 10 RB, who will be washed in 2-3 years time, when we are going to be bad for the next couple of seasons?

It would just be basic roster management at this point to consider trading Kamara, like Carolina did with McCaffrey. Unfortunately for cap reasons we probably can’t.

Some players we are going to have to absorb dead money and cap hits in order to clear the books faster. Youre right, maybe thats not Kamara this offseason. Michael Thomas is probably 1 that we need to create space in order to absorb the cap hit just to start getting this team back on solid ground.

Because if you trade him now we are done for the next 5/6 years. No coach will want to come here. Cap hell, no star players, no picks. From a business stand point, owners and GMs wouldn’t sign off on that. It would lose too much money. If we aren’t winning from a business stand point you have to still be able to sell tickets and market the team some way. It’s the same reason why the pelicans kept Chris Paul. The league knew if they allowed that trade the market would crash for the team. No fan wants to hear the business side of sports but it plays a factor.
That’s hyperbolic to say the least. No coach is going to accept the job with Kamara on the roster but reject it if he isn’t. I’m not sure there’s any RB who would have that effect.

Running backs have a short shelf life and are quite easily replaceable. Trading Kamara wouldn’t finish us for 6 years nor would it lose the franchise money, that’s just nonsense. A few fans who can’t see the bigger picture would moan for a couple of weeks then we’d all move on, like it never happened, with a draft pick to improve the roster with young talent.

81+ catches in each of his first 4 seasons. Then 47, now 49. Rushing YPC 4.9 his first 4 seasons, 3.8 the last 2. Those numbers are a sign of decline.
We had a very intelligent and great HOF QB for his first 4 seasons. Between the ****show of revolving door of QBs and patchwork Oline, how is he suppose to put up his normal numbers? His decline in numbers is not from a decline from himself

Judging by your join date you weren't here for the first round of "Kamara being washed up and should be traded" banter. He was playing injured, but that doesn't seem to buy anyone reprieve with this crowd.

And many are talking as if a strip down and rebuild is necessary or imminent. I'm still in the camp of us having a very solid roster. We should be winning with these players even with the rash of injuries. We are underachieving. With better coaching, this can be turned around quickly.

Will he be in decline in year 9 though? We are about to start minimum 2 year rebuild. Its not so much what he is now, as opposed to dragging him through 2 years of a rebuild. Id have to be on any NFL RB being well on the other side of their prime by year 9. Thats the only reason Id say trade him. If we were competitive the next couple of years, fine keep him. We need to rebuild, were 4-8 and 'win now' has ended.

If coaching staff/front office staff stays the same after this season I have it on good authority(drunk member of front office) that they are actively going go try to move Kamara this offseason.
