Unfortunately this season has been defined by health and in turn resulted in our 0-3 start.

Why has the front office not addressed the critical losses at the key position of CB?
As much as people want to hold Loomis and Payton accountable for the apparent lack of talent evaluation and depth, which can be argued to no end... A healthy Breaux and PJ would have had a significant positive impact of this DA defense.

Also, imagine this team with a Josh Norman signing, who was targeted by Loomis/Payton.. This signing would have resulted in dead money, but for 2016 and 2017 we would be much better off..

The CB position was neglected in the draft, under the assumption that Lewis, Breaux and PJ would provide servicable depth..

We've made moves on the waiver wire that resulted in Moore and Webb, but we need to continue to address this position, especially since PJ can no longer be counted on for depth. Landing a solid CB via the draft can be very difficult and is at best a 50/50 gamble in the first round. (Think Artie Burns, Kyle Fuller, Justin Gilbert, Dee Milner, DJ Hayden to name a few..)

However, good organizations continue to pursue and address positions loss to injury and performance (Patriots trading a 6th for Akeem Ayers after losing Jerod Mayo in 2014)
We need to do the same..

A few players that could be worth a look for a potential trade; (Consideration only to a 3rd day pick, rounds 4-7 or a player trade)

Dre Kirkpatrick, The 12th pick of the 2012 draft, he is on his final year of his rookie deal with the Bengals and they have his potential replacement in house with Darqueze Denard while still relying on the aging Adam Jones.

Byron Maxwell, an interesting talent that has been traded from the eagles to the dolphins after signing 6yr, 63M deal, last night he was benched. He has restructured his deal with Miami and his base salary will be $8.5 for each of the next two seasons 2016/2017. If he's restructured once for Miami, he could consider it again for the saints. Perhaps a trade involving Ingram to a team desperate for a starting RB would make sense.

The fact remains that Solid/above average CBs are not available in the league for trade and usually only hit FA when their value has ascended to double-digit millions. This front office must consider any trade to address this position. In the offseason we can draft and hope for success, but designing a defensive scheme without at least one CB that will allow you to shift coverage is expecting the impossible. Breaux is critical to the DA defense, but his injury history is well documented and we need to continue to establish depth at the position.

The young UDFA corners are improving, but expecting them to play outside this season is a recipe for disaster.

This season is not hopeless, it may be painful, but it in no way shape or form feels like 2005, that was a brutal hopeless season. Keep your heads up, there is still time for moves, trades, and change...WHO DAT!

Byron Maxwell is absolutely awful. He's been replaced by a rookie already.

Why would the Saints trade their starting running back for a cornerback who just got benched?

That makes a ton of sense.

I did find it odd that Byron Maxwell played only like two snaps yesterday. Sure, he's been awful, but I'm willing to give ANYONE a shot right about now!

No way do you do it for Ingram though. Maybe a swap of 6th and 7th round picks at MAX (I.E. We get Maxwell and a 7th for our 6th).

It's too late to save this season with some magical trade.

Any signifigant roster moves need to be made based on longer term goals.

Breaux is critical to the DA defense, but his injury history is well documented and we need to continue to establish depth at the position.

Just want to point out that Breaux's "injury history" consists of a broken neck before his freshman year at LSU. And that's it. Then he broke his leg this year. **** happens.

Doesn't mean he had an "injury history" that's relative to his being on the team, unless he broke his neck again and not a leg.

CB was neglected in the draft under the assumption that some of Lewis, Breaux, Wilson, PJ, and Swann would be healthy with Vaccaro having the ability to play nickel and many needs existing elsewhere. You can't keep much more than 5 CB's on the roster without cutting into other depth needs, so if you draft another high profile CB you lose out on a possible starter or needed depth elsewhere, there's a good chance your new CB doesn't see the field, and a good possibility of wasting a draft pick in the event you try to put him on PS. We got Bell, who has coverage ability, and we locked up two good developmental prospects for PS or bottom of roster depth. We were just really, really unlucky. We lost 6 CB's who would have seen the field before Harris and Crawley. Imagine how bad our O-line would be if we lost Strief, Armstead, Peat, and two or 3 of our best backups at those spots. Imagine how bad we would be at LB if we lost Robinson, Ellerbe, Anthony, Mauti, and the former falcon (name escapes me ATM). Imagine how bad we would be at WR if we lost Cooks, Snead, Thomas, Coleman, Lewis, and someone else.

Corners haven't been our problem against ANY team this season. It's been lack of pass rush and the LB's getting eaten alive by running backs. I'd wait until these guys are the reason we're losing before bringing in replacements.

i agree 100%, the corners have played well against the WRs, it's the linebackers and safeties that have been getting torched.

You're not going to get good value on a CB trade at this point. Any XB is either going to be awful or cost way more than he's worth. Maxwell looks like the 2nd coming of Browner and Kirkpatrick didn't lose his starting job he's out with a hamstring injury and the Bengals don't have the depth to even consider letting him go in a trade.

Trade Mark Ingram for Joe Haden or Jimmy Smith. Both teams need a running back. We don't run the ball. We are always in dire need for cornerbacks. We can't draft them. Might as well trade for a proven one.

I have never seen a team completely ignore a RB out of the backfield like we do and we have done it with multiple coordinators.
