Product of great scheming? One hit wonder? Bonafide BAMF? I can't say for sure even after 13.5 sacks but he looks to be the real deal.

What I do know is that we haven't had a legitimate pass rushing specialist since 2014 when we had Beltman, master of discipline.

I'm really surprised that there isn't much discussion or threads with long-shot scenarios to keep him around. Is it just a foregone conclusion that he's gone because his price will be too high? Are there any comparable players to compare potential contracts?

Look, I know we have many, many, many, decisions to make as for as key players & contracts. I know we also have Davenport. I just feel like retaining TRex's potential should at least be a top 5 priority. Where else are you gonna find that production if it hasn't already been there prior to TRex's emergence? Thread page counts were in the 100s for Suh and Clowney when we were chasing after this kind of pash rush production and the organization was ready to pay handsomely for it, despite cap woes.

It's been said here on SR very often: Elite Pass Rushers don't grow on trees and when you even think you have one, you don't let them leave.

I'm also hoping they can keep him. People are saying he's a one-season wonder, but I recall him being one of the only players who performed extremely well in the playoff loss to the Vikings last year. I think he will be a perennial 10 sack guy, and I've never heard of any character issues or other red flags.

He's got a lot to improve on, especially in containing the run, but if the Saints can find a way, I hope they can bring him back. If Cam regresses any further, we could be out of luck in terms of pass rush if TRex leaves.

I hope "people" keep saying this and it drives his price down lol

I too hope he can improve on containing the run but his side of the line has traditionally been platooned anyway. Thinking ahead and nothing against Cam, but Cam is probably out of the door in 2 years when his dead cap is at it's lowest (5M). Davenport and Hendrickson doesn't sound like a bad duo.

I think Granderson can be special, if Trey leaves
I think so, too. I just don't see him being a 13.5 sack guy. I don't even know if Trey can repeat that but at least he's shown he's capable of it and I think that's worth retaining.

My thinking on him is he is a solid player, who had a monster season. He's one you want to keep, but also not overpay for. I think the Saints offer him a decent contract, but if another team offers him mega bucks, it may just be more than we are willing and/or able to pay. With Davenport and Granderson in the mix, I just think Hendrickson is a luxury, especially when you look at our cap situation.

That’s the million dollar question... (or multi-million dollar question)

...Is Trey Hendrickson an emerging star pass rusher that will put up great pressure stats and double-digit sacks for the next 4-5 years?
...or...
Was that essentially a carbon-copy of what Vic Beasley did in Atlanta a few seasons ago, and duped the Clowns into giving him bank for terrible production?

IMHO, I think Hendrickson is a solid player. I think his consistent line is really averaging around 7-9 sacks per season.

If there is a silver lining it is that all teams will be dealing with the lower cap so free agents will feel the squeeze everywhere not just with the Saints. It may be a situation where players accept a light first year and backloaded 2nd and 3rd years.

I'm curious to see what happens. Typically the Saints put more value on a guy that can play the run and pass equally. They have one of those in Davenport and I think they are still very invested in him. I don't know if they spend big on a pass rush specialist. I'd imagine they would want to continue rotating him. So if a team was willing to pay big money like in the 15 mil range I don't know if the Saints would go that high. Then throw in the cap situation, I don't have my hopes up they keep him.

I hope they can manage it but if they only take a 3rd round pick, get some good production and get another 3rd round pick out of him, I won't complain too much.

Me to but cap precludes that

Agree. Plus Cam is still elite against the run.

Hendrickson made himself into a very good pass rusher. But he is also a bit of a liability against the run and takes himself out of plays.

Most likely scenario will be starting Cam and Davenport, Granderson as the extra pass rusher and maybe draft or sign someone cheap for that 4th rusher spot that was Granderson’s.

Be interesting to see if the Lions go after him now that Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn are up there. They know his value as well as anyone does.

Hendrickson may be one of those knee-cap biters that Campbell is looking for.

Part of me thinks he could be a special talent who developed and then came into his own when the opportunity was there. Part of me wonders if he could be a Paul Kruger type who has one big year and then fades after getting a big deal.

Just have to trust the staff and front office. They know what they have in T Rex. Loomis will place a value on him and the market will decide. If they have faith in the other DEs then I don't think they can afford to get into a bidding war. And nothing gets GMs going like high Sack totals. Should be interesting.

TRex is gone, dude. Pass rushers get paid a premium and some dummy is going to throw a whole dump truck of money at him for one season's performance. Let it go and get ready for Carl.
