Um, The U has aleardy named their new coach. I don't recall his name, but he was already on the staff and is a former player.
Anyway, I'm not so sure about the Toledo hire for Tulane. There were some other interesting options out there like Jim Harbaugh and Major Appplewhite that might have been a riskier, but better picks. Toledo failed at UCLA where he had the draw and talent of southern California for his recruiting. I'm not sure he will do much better at Tulane.
Toledo was a "safe" pick, but I think they should have rolled the dice on Harbaugh or Applewhite. They can't really get any worse can they?

Major Applewhite? The same guy who played for Texas like three years ago? What qualifies him to be a head coach?
The fact that he didn't fail at a major University with fertile recruiting grounds and the draw of the Los Angeles coast.![]()
Seriously, I'm not sure that Applewhite was qualified, but his name was being mentioned for the job. However, I do think Haubaugh (SP?) was highly qualified. Beyond that, I think they could have picked any young and up and coming coach rather than a re-tread that failed at UCLA. Yes, I know a younger up and coming coach would leave in a few years if he was successful, but what's wrong with that? Tulane gets a few good years and then gets another young up and coming coach. I think that is really the best they can hope for. It's unlikely they will ever become the type of school that a coach won't leave.

While I like Bob Toledo, I tend to agree with this. Maybe they wanted someone who'd stick if he was successful. The other 2 would use this as a stepping stone while Toledo may be satisified after having a big time job and failing.
