Ryan Griffin’s home in Westlake Village, Calif., was soaked in champagne and stuffed with friends, family and former high school coaches on Saturday at dinner time on the West Coast. The former Tulane quarterback waited out the 2013 NFL draft all day.
But it wasn’t until after the names stopped streaming on the television that a strange cry emerged from this Golden State home.
“Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat” screams could probably be heard down the block judging from how hard it was to hear Griffin over the phone Saturday night. The somewhat tense household turned wildly happy when Griffin agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints just 10 minutes after the draft’s conclusion. He is the first Tulane player to sign a free agent contract to play for the Saints since former Green Wave quarterback Patrick Ramsey did in 2010.
