UFC 113: Machida v Shogun II
Saturday May, 08
Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Guys, I need some help here. Feel free to weigh in on this question with your picks.
I only purchase a couple of UFC events each year at my house. I’m getting either 113 or 114 but cannot decide which to order. 113 appears to be slightly stronger, but 114 has Evans and Rampage and I can only imagine the Primetime Show whipping me into a frenzy for that card. Also Griffin is fun to watch. Which way should I lean

Prelims
Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter
MacDonald is a late fill in. Maybe he won’t be in shape :idunno:

Mike Guymon vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
Poor Joker. Waited so long for his UFC shot and it may be over come Sunday morning.

Joey Beltran vs. Tim Hague
Hague is much bigger but I’ve seen Beltran fight in person so I’ll pick him.

T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks
Hendricks is getting jobbed by the UFC. He beat Amir then has to fight on another prelim while Sadollah gets one of the live on Spike fights later this month. The power of TUF. Hendricks by brutality.

Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
Down with Canadians!

Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
Sorry New Gold. I really like Canada. Well, I’ve only been to Vancouver and Whistler but still, Canada seems lovely. I just feel like they are underdogs in these fights and if I had to bet my life on it, Hague would be the only pick I’d make. Well, maybe one more. But no way I’m betting against Lawlormania bruther.

Main Card
Alan Belcher -120 vs. Patrick Cote -105
When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"
But I shot a man in Reno,
Just to watch him die,
When I hear that whistle blowin',
I hang my head and cry.

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson -120 vs. Matt Mitrione -110
It was fun while it lasted. For the record, I really like Kimbo. I don’t blame him for getting paid and marketing himself. He can hardly be held responsible for all the hype he was given. I wish people built me up the same way but alas I think Mitione is legit and will knock Kimbo out.

Jeremy Stephens +160 vs. Sam Stout -190
Love me some Canadians!

Paul Daley +200 vs. Josh Koscheck -250
I really want to pick Daley. I’ll probably be pulling for Daley. Koscheck says he’ll stand toe-to-toe with the Brit but I don’t buy it. Kos standup is good but not Daley’s level. Kos with the TKD/GnP.

Light Heavyweight Championship Fight
Champ Lyoto Machida -190 vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua +160
I stared at my word .doc (yes, I type this up in word first) for about half the morning. Or at least a good solid cup of coffee. The nasty free stuff at work.

Anyway, who knows. I mean really, couldn’t you see either winning. Duh, I know. “It’s MMA you idiot, of course anyone could win.”

Whatever, I really cannot make up my mind. Both have electric standup. Each employ their own style. Here are a few pros for each.

Rua – Big fight experience. Knows he can stand and bang with Machida and inflict damage. Thinks he won the last fight. Trains in a cage now. Knee issues are behind him. Hawt wife.

Machida – Has a five-round title fight under his belt. Karate style keeps head out of range from big strikes. Knows Shogun will likely stand again. Confidence. Power of the unibrow.

My question is what happens if/when it goes to the ground? I’d have to give a slight edge to Shogun because I’ve seen his ground game a little more than Machida’s.

Also, who changes up their game plan? Both seem intent on the same style of fight which would be great for fans. However, I feel one is bluffing and may incorporate a few takedown attempts. Perhaps Machida can clinch and get a few cheap trip takedowns.

I’m picking Machida but with little confidence.

Let me hear ya!

Belcher by bad tattoo in the 2nd.

Mitrione by gas tank in the 3rd.

Stout by cooler name via decision.

Koscheck by brutal double leg takedown into GNP and sloppy ugly submission in the second.

Machida by elusiveness. Decision. As well prepared as he typically is, I fully expect him to change his attack to deal with Rua's Thai kicks and counter strike everything Rua throws at him, and even get some of the crazy takedowns he does off of strikes. I would have scored his last fight for Rua, but this time around I think he'll be better prepared to deal with Shogun and will be much more decisive in victory.

Machida is my favorite UFC fighter by far. The way he took down Evans was one of the best fights I've seen. His last fight with Rua probably should have gone the other way. I think Lyoto will be well prepared for this one.

Why are all your picks full of FAIL! What happened to you, I use to look forward to these threads and your picks. Anyways, I will try to take pics next month for all you fight fans here when SR.com's own Kennydfresh(4 stripe wht belt) will be competeing in the VA state championship vs TBD opponents, look out Maia and Shields I'm coming for you.

I guess my decision has been made. I'll be ordering 113 this weekend since Forrest pulled out of hs fight with Lil' Nog at 114. That tips the scales imo.

Fedor vs. Werdum set for June 26 Strikeforce, on Showtime.

I am very excited about the rematch between Shogun and Machida. It will be interesting to see what adjustments are made by each fighter. Here are my picks.

Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter
I'll take Salter for no other reason than Macdonald is coming in on late notice.

Mike Guymon vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
I don't know why, but my gut is telling me to pick Guymon. I think Joker is highly trained and motivated to keep his UFC job intact.

Joey Beltran vs. Tim Hague
Flip a coin. I like Beltran in this fight.

T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks
I like Hendricks in this fight. Grant is a tough fighter, but I am picking Hendricks.

Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
All Davis really needs to do here is blow on Goulet's chin and he should get the KO. Davis via ko.

Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
Fast becoming a Tom Lawlor fan. Will be curious to see what his entrance is this time. I think this is a tough fight as Doerksen is a vet, but Lawlor has looked very good in his last fights. I am taking Lawlormania via tko rd 3.

Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote
Good solid fight to start the card. I don't think there are going to be too many takedown attempts here. I think this will play out on the feet. Cote is tough, but I like Belcher's Muay Thai just a little better here. Belcher via dec.

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. Matt Mitrione
I respect all fighters that climb into the ring, but every single time I watch a Kimbo fight I just can't help but cringe. He has decent boxing skills, yet he only seems to have the gas tank for about 1 round max.

He is facing a former NFL player and someone that I think has potential. Forget what we saw on TUF about Mitrione, he has an enourmous amount of potential. I think he tko's Kimbo in this fight.

I like Matt Mitirone via tko rd 2.

Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
Highly looking forward to this fight. Stout looked good in his fight against Joe Lauzon and Stephens is a dangerous stand up fighter with good pop. I think I will curse this fight and call it a possible fight of the night. I think Stout's striking is a little more crisp. I think he wins a very tough hard fought dec over Stephens.

Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck
This fight has some great trashtalking going on. Daley's photoshop thread with Koscheck is hilarious. And Daley recently calling Koscheck a fraggle is pretty funny.

I will let it be known that I would really like to see Daley win via nasty ko, but I don't think it happens here. I think Koscheck is smart here, doesn't give Daley the chance to punch his head off and takes him down very quickly. Where some gnp is followed by a RNC.

Koscheck via RNC...

Light Heavyweight Championship Fight
Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Very excited about this fight. Shogun had a great strategy in his last fight, using kicks to the leg and body to keep Machida's counter ability at bay. Granted, Cecil Peoples doesn't think leg kicks win fights.

I will also be curious to see if Shogun tries to put Machida on his back as Shogun is very good at striking from the top position and he has decent takedowns.

I wonder what plan Machida will come in here with as well. Will he use his karate to counter, or does he look to overwhelm Shogun in a somewhat surprising move?

I think I will be going with Shogun in this fight. I feel that he is back in form from his Pride days and I think he will capture the title in a very good five round fight. I think Rua will be able to effectively mix up his attack against Machida. I think Machida wil be wary of the leg and body kicks which will open up a takedown here and there.

I like Shogun to hand Machida his first defeat here via dec.
