The UFC returns with a much hyped and awaited match between Frank Mir and former Collegiate wrestler and former WWE star Brock Lesnar. What is my take on this fight, well I will let you know after I review the fights.

Keita Nakamura Vs. Rob Emerson
Don't really care about this fight. Makmura wins.

David Heath Vs. Tim Boetsch
Don't know too much about Boetsch except that his only loss was to the "Janitor" in the IFL. Heath is 2-2 in the Octagon coming off of two straight losses. i will pick him to get back on track in this fight.

Marvin Eastman Vs. Terry Martin
Interesting fight here. Martin is coming off a loss to Chris Leben while Eastman is 0-3 in the UFc with losses to Rampage, Travis Lutter and an axe-wielding Vitor Belfort..if you have no idea what I am talking about, do a Google Image Search with Marvin Eastman Cut as your title. I think this will be the end of the line in the UFC for Eastman. Martin is going to take the fight to him and get back on the winning track.

Chris Lytle Vs. Kyle Bradley
Once again, don't know much about Bradley, but I do like Lytle. I think he rebounds from his last fight with a win over Bradley.

Gleison Tibau Vs. Tyson Griffin
This will be a fun fight. Griffin has been in some great fights in the UFC and I expect this one to be no different. I like Tibau as well, he has bounced back from his first fight in the UFC( loss to Nick Diaz) with 3 wins in a row. I think his streak will end here with a loss to the very well rounded Griffin.

Jeremy Horn Vs. Nate Marquardt
This will be a very interesting fight. These are 2 of the most technical and experienced fighters around. I think this fight will go the distance with Marquardt getting the nod via Dec.

Tim Sylvia Vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
This is actually the main event of the card, and normally it being a Pride vs UFC fight, the internet hype would be crazy, but it is on the same card as Mir vs Lesnar. This is for the Heavyweight title. I think this is a very interesting fight. Nog can submit Sylvia on the ground, I truly believe that. Can he get him there and keep him there is a different story. Sylvia is a good fighter, albeit sometimes a boring fighter. He has KO power and we know Nog has a good chin so I think this could be fun to watch.

I also think Nog has good boxing skills which should help him against the taller Sylvia. In the end, my gut is telling me to go with Nog, and that is what I will do. If he can get a hold of one of Sylvia's long limbs, then I think he can submit him. If not, I see a long Dec win for Nog.

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir
I think I am in the minority here, but I don't think this fight will last longer than 2 minutes. We all know that Lesnar is a strong, very good wrestler, but having one fight against a can is a big difference than having to fight a former UFC Champ. Especially one that has broken Tim Sylvia's arm. I think that Mir is going to come into this fight, focused and in great shape. I am sure that Lesnar will try for the takedown, I believe he will secure it, but when it hits the mat, he will be in big trouble.

I think that Mir will submit Lesnar in 2 minutes or under. It is a bold prediction which I hope holds true(it would make me look like I finally know what I am talking about:))

Well, there it is. I am going out on a limb with my pick and I am eager to see if it holds up. Thoughts? Should I get my head checked? Let's hear your thoughts and predictions.

Im pulling for Lesnar because if he gets on a winning streak it would probably mean a lot of new fans for mma and media attention as well.

I want to see an F-5 no matter what.
Hey, I saw a German suplex when I was watching WEC a couple of months ago and Rampage power bombed a dude, so it could happen. :hihi:

Seriously though, if it did happen and it KOed Mir that would be the most awesome thing I have ever seen.

Maybe so. If I were him, I would have worked my way in a little though. Mir is really tough. Urgh, watching Sylvia's arm snapping like a twig still hurts a little. I don't think this one will be quick with Lesnar's background, but I do think Mir get a tap.

I'd say Nog on the "undercard" as well. Don't think I"ve seen anyone take punishment like that dude and still come back to win.

F-5 = Worst Finishing Move Ever.

Here are my predictions (I'll only post predictions for fights in which I've seen both fighters fight):

Marvin Eastman Vs. Terry Martin
Eastman by decision

Gleison Tibau Vs. Tyson Griffin
Griffin by knockout

Jeremy Horn Vs. Nate Marquardt
Marquardt by referee stoppage

Tim Sylvia Vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Nog by submission

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir
Mir by submission

Just because it should be posted after pegleg mentioned it.

Man I really hope Mir shows up in good shape for this fight. He was one of my favorites for a while and then ever since the wreck he's just never been the same.

Here's a nice article on Chuck in SI.. Looks like they're trying to line up a Chuck/Shogun matchup for June in London, but Chuck's trainer wants it in Vegas..

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/jon_wertheim/01/31/chuck.liddell/index.html

As far as UFC 81, I'd like to see Brock with a good showing.. I think everyone (at least I do) loves a good heavyweight division, and if he can show up, it will make the heavyweight division all that better.. They ought to get Jim Ross to call the match.. "F5!! F5!! DEAR GOD, F5!!!" :hihi:

I think Nog's gonna take Sylvia down and sub him.. Has the potential to be a great fight, but also as much potential to be boring..

This should be a good card of HW fights.

Nog vs Silvia

I know Nog is great on the ground and everyone is saying if he gets Sylvia down he will sub him. I'm not so sure about that, remember that is what everyone said about his fight with Jeff Monson also. Monson was finally able to get Tim down, but Tim's BJJ was amazing. Not only was his sub defense great, but he almost pulled off the sub himself.
This fight will be more challenging for Tim because Nog is more well rounded than the one-dimensional Monson. Sylvia will have to train standup and BJJ and wrestling for this fight, where in the Monson fight he mostly worked on his BJJ and takedown defense.
Many MMA fans dislike Sylvia for some reason or another, saying he is borring or doesnt finish fights, or think he is a jerk. After watching his ground skills vs Monson, and after meeting and hanging out with him, I have a lot of respect for Tim as a fighter and a person. He is a soft spoken, nice guy who works really hard at his craft. Of course Randy made him look bad, but he made a lot of people look bad. Also Tim fought injured, and never recovered from that hook Randy caught him with early in their fight. Nog is a tough well rounded fighter who will look to take Tim down, but isnt afraid to stand and trade. I think Nog will be supprised by Tim's defense, both takedown and submission. As for picking a winner, I am going to pick Sylvia by decision.

Mir vs Lesnar

I think we will know the winner based on what kind of shape Mir shows up in at weigh-ins. He has looked terrible in his last 3 fights, really terrible. He has shown up fat and out of shape and gassed out early. If he weighs in at or under 240, then I'll go with him; anything from 240-245 is a toss-up; and over 245 I'll go with Lesnar. Brock is an amazing athlete who would do well in almost any sport. He would have likely made an NFL team had he tried out again the next year after going to Vikings camp, with a year of football coaching and just learning how to play, IMO and in the opinion of other Viking players and coaches. I wonder how Brock will handle the bright lights of the Octogon for the first time. Maybe wrasslin has given him a little comfort as a performer? The longer that fight goes, the better chances Brock has to gnp a fat lazy out of shape Mir. I will give my prediction based on what I said about Mir's shape at weigh-ins.
Sorry so long.
