Here's another paper about "demlitizartion" of older munitions, it was costing several hundred million during at least one recent fiscal year.

Hopefully those are going to "demilitarize" Russian invaders.

So its probably only a slight savings, considering total aid package to Ukraine is ~$50 billion/year and the narrative we are "saving money by giving Ukraine excess inventory" is far from the truth. Plus we have to factor in the cost to ship all that stuff, and other maintenance to make sure its combat ready. Which at least partially cancels out any cost we aren't spending on disposal.
Agreed. It's a tradeoff. Even if it's a net cost to the budget, it's still worth every penny if it goes to a good cause.
