Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (103 Viewers)

I truly wonder what all of you will say if DC starts this yr and with 3 former NFL QBs on the staff they get the best out of him. With the players bought in and good coaching. And we sign a few good FAs to upgrade the DL, S and some depth @ OL. Then we have a good draft and get a big body contested pass catcher, an edge guy and another starter. We have just a normal health yr. And we go 10-7 with luck 11-6 and win the NFCS and a playoff game

What will you all be saying then???
I know I can see it now, " But But But, He went to Chipolte" Or "He must be wearing eyeliner"
And what will you be saying when reality hits and we are 8-9 and missing the playoffs again? It'll be excuses galore again, youll find another boogie man for Derek Carr's failed career.

You know it's going to happen. Derek Carr gives you the illusion of competing, without actually competing. Loomis just loves seeing Tampa Bay win the NFC South.

My thoughts:

The part where he says there’s still contract stuff to figure out is key. Saints will want Carr to take a paycut, Carr won’t take a paycut. There is a scenario where he still gets traded/released with the team saying they wanted tk negotiate a reworked contract but couldn’t come to terms. Another scenario is a a reworked deal where we give him the 40 million this year but drop the salary to the 15 million range and have the rest as an automatic void 2026 salary guarantee. Carr doesn’t take a paycut and the team gets the salary cap relief. Also still leaves the door open for him to be traded by the deadline.

With Pete you are right . But with Kubiak we say glimpses of what DC and the O could be. Then all hell broke loose with injuries
The effects of coaching/scheme, my good man. That's why I don't mind Carr with Kellen. So many peop...well, just one person :cautious:, always misses the point when this is discussed. Coaching and scheme fit matters way more to QB success than perceived skill. I was never down on Carr from a skill perspective; I saw what he was good and and some things he could be better in, but seeing the transition from 2021 to Week 1 2022, I knew coaching was the issue. I felt really good about Klint of the nepo circle..lol. But when the injuries started to happen, things went south fast, specifically Taysom's injuries. Kellen Moore has always been adaptable and I think that is what has always intrigued me about him. He is closer to Sean Payton in how he builds an offense.

Meh…

Want to win in this league, need a mobile QB.
Don't know about this..lol. Tom Brady was like we have all the QBs scrambling because they aren't able to see or make the correct checks at the line and run a play that won't work or just missing reads and I somewhat agree. I don't think that there is anything wrong with a mobile QB but I don't believe that it is a requirement neither. Rams were 1 drive away from the NFCCG. They were hot and probably would have beaten the Commanders but I think the Chiefs win against the Rams because the Eagles didn't beat the Chiefs with the front 4, per se. The back 7 nullified the pass game and you actually saw a lot of "coverage" sacks but I digress....lol.

Just need a QB that you believe in and build around him.

Knowing Mickey Loomis and how he operates, for him to have declared what he declared and have shared that detail about the contract tells me that the general parameters of what there is to finalize are already in place.

if we cut car, draft or go with SR , sign vet to have on the roster who may or may not be as good as Carr, saints in another new contract with Vet

restructure Carr, draft or go with SR, no need to sign a vert, Carr is disgruntled requests trade, costs Saints nothing

keep Carr under current deal, let contract expire, Play him and he does well, continue to build team for when we draft quality young qb

keep Carr under current deal, let contract expire, Play him, he plays poorly, play SR, Carr requests trade

Carr is playing well and get hurts then team begins to loose because SR isnt good regardless of surrounding players

regardless of situation nothing we do with Carr on the roster (play / bench) matters because we have no " benching / playing will harm his confidence or attitude towards team" because everyone is under the impression he is a bridge QB till the roster and cap improves
