Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (36 Viewers)

I have been the biggest defender of Carr for the unnecessary hate he received from fans, especially in this forum. But I am all for what's best for the team going forward.

I'm one that wanted to move on from Carr, not because he's bad, but because I think we need to start looking for our franchise QB now and I don't want to wait a year. But it wasn't because I think Carr is bad. He's not, he's just mediocre. But, if he is staying, I hope Moore can somehow unlock Carr and make him the best he can be.

Or, hopefully Rattler takes a giant leap this offseason and beats Carr out in training camp. That would solve so many problems for this team. I don't think it's likely to happen, but it would be amazing if it did.

He is not taking a cut

I know he said that, but the fact that Nick said they have some contract stuff to work out gives me some hope that he will take a cut. Otherwise, what is there to talk about? The Saints have the right to convert any part or all of his salary to a bonus without even talking to him so they wouldn't need to work that out. But maybe it's just that the Saints need to figure out how much they want to restructure.

As much as I wanted to move on and look for young QB for the long term starting this year, I get why they wouldn't do it. They likely want to have some money to get players that Moore wants/fit his system and they wouldn't have that money until after June 1 if they cut Carr. But, hopefully they work out a pay cut and don't have to restructure his entire salary this year. If we can avoid that, we will have more cap space next year after we cut him.
This, I'm hoping Moore was able to charm Carr into reconsidering his paycut decline. That was always the best case scenario along w/ him being on the team. Even better if he eventually concedes to Rattler at some point this season if things don't start well.

Nah... We gonna rebuild around a 34 year old QB that's injury prone.

If Loomis wants to do an extension to spread out the cap hit. They have to work with Carr on that.

2025 record shouldn't even come into play at all. The entire year's success should be judged by clearing the books of deadweight like Carr, Jordan, Davis, etc. and getting into position to draft a franchise QB.

If you go into 2026 with a QB you feel good about and a clean cap, then 2025 is a total success even if you go 0-17.

Hopefully, and I think, this marriage will only last one more year and is mostly because of the cap cost of cutting him this year. It gives me hope that Nick says that the Saints really like Cam Ward and it sound like if he fell to #9 (he won't), they would draft him. It also sounds like they would trade up for him, but the cost is too high right now.

It's been a matter of moving on from him THIS year or NEXT year. It'll be intriguing indeed to see how Moore fashions the offense with an experienced vet as the starter. Yes, he's a career second-tier-at-best vet, but still experienced none the same.

Logically, they'll need to address the o-line yet again this offseason, either in FA or the draft. Guard, specifically.

Wanting Cam Ward would say more about where they are with Rattler than with Carr. Everyone knows Carr is not the long term answer.
