Underhill: Thomas expected to miss time. (1 Viewer)

The surgery was done a week after Tampa. It just didn't take. This is another surgery.
What's worse, is no guarantee this second surgery will go any better. Hill's betting odds of starting just went up IMO with us not having our best possession receiver.

Im just curious on why he decided to get surgery in June instead of earlier in the offseason. Better we add another WR on our list
Because guys don’t want to get cut open

It’s funny that surgeries have become so normalized in football that people think it’s just an easy decision but there are significant risk associated. Not everyone is ok with that and his late decision suggest he tried to get it to heal on its own first.

Agree. My son had high ankle sprain his senior year in high school on baseball team and his ankle still bothers him playing pickup basketball 20 years later.

Thomas doesn't have blazing speed, but his suddenness and hands are what make him a great receiver. He'll not be the same unless that ankle fully heals.

Per Nick, MT had one ankle surgery and it occurred in June. Don’t know the details but really question those involved in the decision to hold off having surgery.
I believe that MT just tried to see if he could rehab the ankle. Maybe it was ok but then he hurt it even more. We don't know. Until MT say what it is and why he waited. We can speculate and guess and figure and ponder and wonder and moan and cry and get mad and get frustrated and I wanna say something else but will not go well so there it is. Just have to wait and see how it all shakes out. What else can we do 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yes, I am only speculating, but I suspect that, if Thomas were in the last year of his contract, he would have had the surgery much earlier. Even before this news about Thomas, wide receiver was a need on this year.

The notion that this team has been so deep that for several years we did not need many draft picks is exposed fully for the fallacy that it was. We have not been deep for a long time at several positions and below average at the receiver and tight end positions.

100% agree with this.

Any doctor worth his degree should exhaust all measures before surgery is the course of action.

It’s such a bummer though that he got hurt on a meaningless play in a game where we had an insurmountable lead. If he’d have been on the bench, we might have had a much different season (though 12-4 with a playoff win is pretty darn good)

References Nick. Thought y’all liked him? Lol
“Per Underhill, Thomas saw a specialist after the 2020 season ended. The specialist believed that Thomas possibly could rehab the injury and avoid surgery. Thomas, according to the report, was supposed to spend a month or so attempting to heal the ankle and then return to the specialist to see whether surgery would be needed. Underhill reports that the return visit never happened.

Underhill adds that the events of the next few months are unclear. When Thomas returned to the Saints in June for offseason workouts (it’s unclear why he wasn’t there earlier), the Saints realized his ankle “was still in bad shape.” (Coach Sean Payton said in June of the Thomas ankle injury, “So far, so good.”) The team then told Thomas to get the surgery performed. And now he needs six to eight weeks after surgery to heal the ligament and six to eight weeks thereafter to get the repaired ankle into full football shape.”

This makes no sense. What about all the talk of MT having a Jordan like competitive obsession? You think Jordan would've ghosted his follow up appointment to see if his ankle is okay? MT couldn't fit the appointment into his schedule? It's kind of a big deal.

I've defended MT a lot over the past few years but this is unacceptable if it's true. I hate to jump to conclusions but this isn't a good look for him.
