Underhill: Thomas expected to miss time. (1 Viewer)

I only say that bc

1.) SP’s affinity with OSU players stems from his relationship with Urban Meyer. Urban coached Werner for a year. SP trust Urban’s word on players.
2.) SP has long adored the white LB. Has been that way ever since he became our coach. So much so, that he would rather nab a walking concussion case in Dan Morgan or past his prime James Lauranitus in FA, despite better options out there. We have employed about 100 of them since 2006. Roughly 90% of them that has made it into the NFL. That’s not coincidence.

2+2=SP’s fingerprints

You're straight up wrong point #2. He's trying to improve our team every single year. Some misses, some hits.

He traded assets for Vilma, why didn't you bring that up? He went out and grabbed Demario who has been a gem for us. Traded for Kwon midseason. Craig Robertson was a key performer on our team for years. Danelle Elerbe. David Hawthorne and Curtis Lofton (albiet these guys were signed when Payton was suspended).

Like I said, some were hits and some were misses but don't try to play up a story that isn't really there.

So it is merely coincidence that once Jeff Ireland was put in charge of personnel our D personnel improved significantly? Ok....I mean I thought it was fairly common knowledge that Ireland makes most of the personnel decisions. SP may have the final say but I would bet he trusts Ireland's judgement...A lot....
No doubt he trusts Ireland’s judgement, but my comment was in regards to the Werner pick. The affinity with OSU players is a SP thing, not Ireland. SP has already been on record stating that. And like I said, the “type” of LB that we have employed since 2006, is without question a SP thing. Read the tea leaves. The common denominator is SP.

You should really start backing this up with actual facts. I've already debunked this. It's really weird of you to keep suggesting this when it hasn't come close to being the case.

Sorry, I’m not wrong on #2. You mentioned two guys while SP was suspended. How does that help your case? Robertson barely got any starter time and Ellebre was a trade filler. Good thing we made that trade for Vilma and nabbed DD bc if we continue to let SP make the calls on LBs, then we would really be screwed.

You know nothing of the situation here. Ireland has a penchant for finding athletic and highly motivated intelligent defenders. Werner checks those boxes, I mean it seems there is a small contingent on this board that think the pick was a mistake before he even steps on the field, I would prefer to see what happens....

No one said the pick was a mistake. Just stated the obvious. Go back and see how I called that pick with ease on draft night. I just knew exactly where that 2nd rd pick was going😆. It was too easy.

It doesn't matter whether they're good or bad players; you're making the claim that he only likes signing/drafting linebackers of a certain skin color and that's just straight up incorrect. You brought up 2 names. I brought up more, and we both missed some. Either back your claim with facts (which you can't, because you'll prove yourself wrong) or let it go.

I also find it hilarious that you think we acquired Vilma and DD in spite of Sean Payton, but earlier you said he's got the final say on ALL decisions with the exception of financials. So was that not true then? Did our FO go rogue and acquire Vilma and DD despite SP probably wanting other linebackers? Listen to yourself.

You are right about Payton and Ohio State, he even admits that. From what I recall from previous drafts, Payton usually scouts the 1st round, and sometimes 2nd round. Ireland's team scouts all the other rounds. But, the actual pick on draft day is a collaboration, not just Payton or Ireland with Loomis making the pick when there's not an agreement between coaches and scouts. But, I only recall that happening once where Loomis made the call.

So, yes. Werner is most likely a Payton pick. But, the scouting was likely done by Ireland, so it's both. Werner checks all the boxes the Saints look for, so it's more than just an Ohio State thing. If there was another player they had ranked higher, they would have taken him over Werner.

I don't quite agree with the Saints system. I think you go with the player that improves your team most, not necessarily the highest ranked player regardless. Like a WR over Ruiz likely would have helped the Saints more than a center when you already have a very good young center. But, nobody asks for my opinion.

Since you didn’t fully read the wording. I said SP has a “type” and we have employed 90% of them that has made it to the NFL……tongue and cheek, but the point remains. No one said that we only bring in the one type. Comprehension is key.

Maybe it's the curse of the Dome patrol but we suck at drafting LBs regardless of the skin tone.

I read what you said. I'd just love to know what evidence you have that proves his "type".

Oh, the almighty I called the pick garbage....give me a break. You sure were alluding that the pick was less than favorable, it sounded like you didn't like the pick....if you didn't that's fine, just say so, no need to be obtuse....

The story was that the specialist he was referred to told him to re-hab for a month then come back and a decision could then be made about if surgery was needed. He didn't go back and it wasn't until 2-3 months later that he finally showed up to the teams medical and decided that surgery was needed. If this is true then it is all on him.

If the Saints can prove this is true I wonder if the have the right to fine him for the amount of game checks for the games he misses.
What's the responsibility of the Saints/Saints Medical Staff to keep on top of these things?

Don't they track the players (esp injured players) and do follow-ups???

To me, race should never be a factor, and I hope/think they were not looking at it the way you stated. I don't think we should be making statements like made above (#2) on Saints Report, true or not true. Statements like that will not make race relations better. We need to love each other and treat each other how we would want to be treated - period end of discussion. Let's be better than the weak-minded one at a time, not one of them.
