Unlikely for Saints to claim Leonard Fournette - RIGHT? (1 Viewer)

Not doubting LF talent. Numbers show he can produce. However, unless his locker room presence changes, I would not care for him as a team mate. Reports show he has been a locker room cancer. Don't need that on this Saints' team. Not only does a team need talent on the field, but they also need coherence off the field. Sean Payton has taken much pride in trying to build both. No matter what Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis do, I will back their decision, but I'm hoping the Saints do not go after LF. JMO.

Geaux Saints.

If we do pick him up that doesn't bode well for AK negotiations. I would immediately assume the 2 sides were pretty far apart. If I were playing GM for a day I think you pick him up to have in your back pocket. It's a plan B to have and worst case scenario you trade him to a team that's in need of a RB after the season starts.

I think there is a chance that they are relatively close. If we were not putting out a number at least somewhere in the ball park his agent would likely just suspend talks and tell him to hit the open market next year.

The deal with Kamara should get done soon.

We're having trouble signing Kamara right now, don't see how we could hire LF too.
You're right to consider this -- picking up Fournette off of waivers guarantees his $4.2 million (?) salary for this season will count against the Saints 2020 cap.

Without a contract negotiation in the same position group, hypothetically the $4.2 million could be absorbed and Fournette could actually be a great fit on the Saints. BUT -- it would be hard to keep Fournette happy. Payton will still feed Kamara, and Latavius Smith has proven ability and a year in the system. IF Fournette were willing to come in, take a back seat, and fill a Mike Bell or Chris Ivory role, that would be amazing. But that's really a lot to expect out of a productive RB that hasn't even finished his rookie deal yet.

No problems at St. Aug, no problem at LSU, then a "locker room cancer" at Jacksonville...a team whose management and coaching has rivaled the early years in New Orleans and has been selling off players like the Persian Rug stores that has had the "Going Out of Business" sign out since 1962. HIGHLY likely it was the team NOT him.

Since entering the league he has been the fourth highest running back in production and about the same place in touches. He would be cheap this year. Hometown hero. "Super Bowl or Bust!" So why not?

Le'Von Bell and the Jets are having issues... If the Jets pay majority of his salary is that a possibility he comes to us?

I can see the Jets taking a chance on LF

His salary is $4.2m, which is why no one would trade for him. That's also his salary if you pick him up off waivers. Expect him to clear waivers for the same reason.

What is the obsession with playing RB musical chairs? We have very good players at the position, who know our system.

Kamara has to return after missing no more than another day of training or he forfeits unrestricted free agency next year. So he'll be playing as well.

Don't bother trying to correct the lies being said about LF7. One cat even chose to remember him "pouting on the sidelines like an 8 year old girl" instead of being hurt for a month with a high ankle injury while at LSU....the only injury he had in 3 years at LSU while being run into the ground by an incompetent Les Miles.
