Use Brandin Cooks on special teams (1 Viewer)

"They tell you it's a business. Well I guess I have to turn into a businessman." (hashtag "shoot your arrows")

"They tell you it's a business" is referring to the game of football. "guess I have to turn into a businessman" means he will have to adjust his approach to the game of football somehow. The "shoot your arrows" hashtag is even more clearly in reference to him wanting opportunities to score. Your explanation sounds like far more of a reach than mine.

The fact that you believe "#shootyourarrows" is "clearly in reference" Brandon Cooks "wanting opportunities to score" is totally grasping for straws. #shootyourarrows is what is referred to as Brandon's Instagram "tag" - get it hash "tag". So #shootyourarrows ALWAYS shows up when Brandon posts a pic on his Instagram - the source of the quote we are discussing. Go look at his other Instagram quotes and you'll see what I mean.

Instagram is a online media for posting pics and video. The statement that are posted should be interpreted in the context of the pic or video that is posted on Instagram. So, lets go look at the pic Brandon posted which accompanied the statement "They tell you it's a business. Guess I have to turn into a businessman":

https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/shootyourarrows/

On Brandon's top pic on Instagram, the one he posted that looks like he is in "show business" with the photographers on the ground snapping pics - go click on that pic. When you do you will see the statement he posted to accompany that pic. That pic gives the statement he made context, and in that context it seems clear to me Brandon is talking about the photographers taking pics of him - not the deva wide receiver meaning you want to give the statement.

Let's not forget the last time he was returning punts he broke his hand and ended his season. It's not a good idea to expose one of your key offensive threats to the possibility of more injuries, especially in special teams where injuries are already more likely to occur.

Nobody knows what he meant. Everyone going to speculate for hours upon hours and all will come to a different meaning.

Here's the thing. He said it, it was cryptic and it came after a game in which he got 0 catches. Since then the quote has taken off among plenty of writers. Triplett has 2 new articles about it now.

All suggesting that there is SOMETHING there and its only human nature to think that when something as vague/inflammatory is said. Also keep in mind if you want a more clear picture just go back to the week after the bye where he said he didn't agree with how he was being used. He said he never voiced his displeasure(of course he was letting it be known at that moment in the interview) but he was happy with how he was being used at that point after the adjustment.

So yes..whether you want to point it out from this article/tweet or the interview earlier this season he's clearly NOT been 100% happy with how he's been used this year and after this game was just one other example.

Its not as plain and cut dry that nothing is there as people are trying to make it seem.

IF you need a more direct quote of him spelling it out here you go. That was said after games in which he had a catch, Id assume it wasn't random after a game with no catches
In his two previous games, Cooks had a total of five catches for 44 yards -- and he said Monday that “one of the things I feel like in those two games … I probably just wasn’t being used right, in my opinion. “But with that being said, we fixed those things, we kind of watched film and just got it fixed,” Cooks said. “I just want to win, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Cooks said he didn’t necessarily bring up his concerns to the Saints’ coaches, but he noticed a change in the game plan last week.

If he didn't like it then, he definitely didn't like it Sunday

edit: Removing the listen...ive been listening to SP and DA talk to much and have adopted that "let me be clear tone"

Antonio Brown has no problem with the dual role

Here are Brandin's comments after his big game against the Panthers earlier this year.

One of the things I feel like in those two games … I probably just wasn’t being used right, in my opinion." “But with that being said, we fixed those things, we kind of watched film and just got it fixed.”

Cooks was unusually clear and vocal about his dissatisfaction in the way he was used in the 2 games leading up to Carolina (held to 5 catches total in those 2 games). Now here are comments after Rams game where he didn't record a catch.

"They tell you it's a business. Well I guess I have to turn into a businessman." (hashtag "shoot your arrows")

If anyone doesn't think this comment is expressing frustration with how he was used, then please tell me what you think the comment is in reference to because I think its pretty clear.

It's good to be winning, lol. Always gotta have something to chatter about. The rams took Cooks away as an option, so we went other directions. Now the league sees Thomas as a legit threat, so Cooks will come back into the fold. That dude is the most consistent professional, he has too great of ethics to whine about one game. Move along, nothing to see here.

Cooks averaged 6.0 yards per punt return in college (12 total returns). He has averaged 3.8 yards per return with the Saints (13 total returns). That is very poor. I'll pass.

Has he ever muffed a punt? Just curious. All of our current PR specialists are liable to fumble and they don't have many spectacular anyway.

Yes, and for comparison's sake, recently acquired Shiloh Keo has an NFL punt return average of 6.4 yards per return (5 total returns). He might even be better than putting Cooks back there.

This is football.

You put your best players in the positions needed to win.

If he was the best PR, he'd be there.

It's not any more dangerous than any other position......do you not think a safety coming across to destroy a deep cross is any less dangerous than PR?

And I haven't seen this rash of injuries from punt returners.

With our special teams, we could put Nightcrawler from the X-Men back to receive punts and he'd be tackled as soon as he caught it.
