Payton happy with younger players filling in

NEW ORLEANS - Sean Payton was in no mood to talk about sub-par performances by the Saints' star running backs, who combined for a paltry 27 yards rushing against Tampa Bay.
The New Orleans Saints' 31-14 victory at Tampa Bay on Sunday had him so pleased he gave his players Monday afternoon off in addition to their regular rest day on Tuesday.
Payton suspected his 6-2 team, now alone in first place in the NFC South through half the season, might have been underestimated coming into the season. But even he was pleasantly surprised to see they'd be good enough to win convincingly even while scrapping their running attack and subbing in seldom used players because of injuries to a top receiver Joe Horn and offensive lineman Jammal Brown.
