Good afternoon Saints Report! Today I'm previewing the upcoming Saints and college football seasons through the form of my first 2017 mock draft.

Before you panic, read it so you'll have some context. I'm not trying to accurately suggest who the Saints are drafting next year. It's impossible to say with so many variables ahead of us. I put 3,000+ words together to help us get an idea of where things are headed and get my own college scouting research started.

So I'm well aware that this is premature and probably not going to be anything close to what happens next spring. But it's a fun exercise and helped me a lot in regards to my own draft prep. With our Saints not showing much to get excited about in preseason exhibitions, this project was a welcome distraction.

Draft all offensive linemen.

In all seriousness though, I dont care for mock drafts at all, much less a year ahead of time, but i enjoyed the read / player assessments.

Given how very few guys hit. I'd say you draft a QB in rounds 3-6 every year until you hit on someone. But , you have to have the picks to do that.

Nice write up. Thanks

So if we keep Chris McCain and lose the 7th we will still have our 1st through 5th picks? We didn't trade any of those?

Hm. Would it be too early to post a 2017 Draft thread?

Meh. I'll post it here anyways:

Thinking way, way ahead for a moment. I think I just found the player outside of Louisiana I'm going to pay the most attention to this season.

CJ Beathard the QB of Iowa.

Has the hair and face of a lineman or linebacker, but he's got this really quick throwing motion that works on all levels of the field. Not exactly a great athlete, but he can make plays with his feet and he moves around well in the pocket. Looks like a tough customer too. In games vs very talented defenses loaded with NFL talent liek Michigan State and Stanford, he acquitted himself well. Even under heavy pressure and limited throwing windows.

The thing that really catches my eye is Iowa loves screens. Does those very well.
