Actually a pretty decent job on this critique. Anyone can grab the BEST video on a player and make them look like "All World."

This guy (in the video study) takes a look at the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly... which (IMO) boosts the credibility of the vid.

See what you think:

Not trying to be overly critical, but Crawley doesn’t make hardly any of those plays in the video

I think he plays with confidence and a good amount of aggressiveness.

Apple defies logic. He seems to do a much better job of getting his head around and finding the ball than Crawley yet he has the same number of career interceptions (1) and fewer pass breakups in a similar amount of games.

Playing with your back to the quarterback and finding the ball in flight is one of the hardest skills in maybe all of sports and it seems Eli can do it. He just has trouble catching and swatting at the ball.

Give that man a JUGS Field General and a coach and get to work.

Great talent with a fresh start and motivation on a good team finally. He has the speed to keep up with D-Jax he can keep up with the best of them. I have faith the final piece has been added gentlemen. In 2-3 weeks we will be loving this trade even more.

PBUs for a cornerback is a weird stat. Having a lot makes it look like one is a better player, but not having many PBUs usually means the player is not getting targeted and thus is covering better.

I like the QB passer rating when thrown at. That will usually be a better indicator who is covering better when they are thrown at. You'd also ideally want to see few targets, which means the corner is winning the battle forcing the QB to find other receivers in their progression.

He will be a good third corner to have on the team. I was pleased that he played corner for the giants when we played them. I thought he was one of their liabilities. Now that he is a saint I hope he plays better. But just because he is a Saint now doesn’t change my opinion and make think he is a legit number 2 corner in the NFL. He is an upgrade over PJ.

One of the great intangibles of acquiring Eli Apple is that he gets to play alongside former college teammates who he knows well and respects. He will hit the field wanting to play for more than just his own interests. He will also want to have the respect of his buddies and show them that he's still the player they remember. Knowing well the guy playing next to you helps the whole group play better.

No doubt this advantage of teammate familiarity played into the decision to make this trade. If it plays out as intended, it could be a move of epic proportions!

You touched on a great intangible, Bill. Those of us who have ever played organized sports know that playing with someone you know gives you an edge in communications, and also in anticipation... because you are aware of their strengths (to have your back) as well as their weaknesses... to where you have theirs.

Good post.

We didn’t make the trade thinking he was going to be #3 or slot corner, if you don’t think he’s better than crawley than idk what you have been watching.

It looks like Apple is less penalized over the time they have been playing, so maybe turning his head around helps with that.

If I'm not mistaken Apple was out the game the Giants played against us.
