If they wanted to extend him, why not start with that? I’d think they would have better luck that way, rather than first asking him to give some money back.

You’re right though, it’s not common for players to take a pay cut. That’s what makes me interested in the story. If he becomes available, it would be hard to believe the Saints wouldn’t show some immediate interest.
