Cool site. I must admit, although I like Vilma and I wanted the Saints to pick him up in the draft a few years back, all this talk of trading for an injured LB with bad knee had me thinking "please god...no...here we go again...Cie Grant all over..."

But now that I've looked at his site, I LOVE the guys mental attitude. Right off the bat, I can picture it in the dome....WELCOME TO AREA 51 - ENTER IF YOU DARE....I absolutely LOVE that attitude! That kind of talk reminds me of an NFL film I saw with a mic-ed up Lawrence Taylor wreaking havoc and announcing that "y'all are gonna have to play this game on the OTHER side of the field."

Instead of Cie Grant, maybe he's Sam Mills incarnate. Regardless, he's a Saint now and that's enough for me to get excited about. If he does his part (which it sounds like he will), I'll LOVE him for it. And we all remember what happened the last time the Saints signed a seriously wounded career-threatened franchise-type free agent player on offense, right? Here's to lightning striking twice......but on the defense this time!!!!!

His emblem is perfect,... it ties in with the Statue of Andrew Jacksons in Jackson Square!

He could put an outline of thre fleur de lis behind the "statue"

If he wants # 51, he will have to talk to Brians Simmons.
# 52 & # 56 are not in Use
# 57 is retired (right?)

<-Pike---

That is a nice site. He seems to answer the ask section regularly, which most players don't do. Too bad it's not working for me. I'd love to ask him stuff about how his rehab is going and how he's going to the saints

There's a cool section where you can ask a question...I registered and didn't really ask a question, but instead welcomed him to the Saints. It would be great if a bunch of us posted "welcome" messages for him...:)

It worked fine for me...:dunno:

VILMA: I EXPECT TO BE A JET NEXT YEAR
Wednesday, November 14, 2007
The New York Post

By MARK CANNIZZARO

Jonathan Vilma, speaking yesterday to reporters for the first time since he had surgery on his right knee last week, said he has every intention of returning to the Jets next season healthy and ready to resume his career.
Vilma, citing the strict team policy that forbids players from talking about injuries, declined to be specific about exactly what kind of surgery he had.

Among the various reports that have been floated about included one that he was having micro-fracture surgery, which is quite serious, but a person with knowledge of the situation said yesterday the surgery was not micro-fracture.

Numerous rumors have been swirling since Vilma was mysteriously injured during the Jets' loss to the Bengals.

There has for two years been speculation he dislikes the 3-4 defensive scheme Eric Mangini employs. There, too, have been rumors he and Mangini don't see eye to eye.

And there have been subsequent reports Vilma had been shopped as trade bait before the trade deadline and that, with one year remaining on his contract, he'll be moved in the offseason.

Jonathan Vilma's days with the Jets are numbered.

The popular linebacker, whose star has dimmed in two seasons under Eric Mangini, has received permission from the Jets to shop himself for a potential trade, the Daily News has learned. It doesn't mean a trade is a certainty, but it's a tacit acknowledgement from both sides that Vilma and Mangini's 3-4 scheme aren't a match.

Vilma, with one year remaining on his rookie contract, also is looking for a long-term deal. Now, with the Jets' blessing, he has the ability to speak with any team. If he agrees to a new contract, it will be up to that team and the Jets to negotiate trade compensation. The Jets could keep him, but they know they won't receive anything next year if he bolts as a free agent. A team spokeman declined comment.

It's unclear what the Jets are seeking, but there's no doubt that Vilma's value took a hit because of major knee surgery last November. Vilma has started jogging and hopes to be running full speed in about a month, he wrote this week on his Web site. If he can show he's healthy before the April 26 draft, it will greatly enhance his stock. Sources believe the Jets could get a third-round pick, perhaps slightly higher, for a healthy Vilma.

The Jaguars and Saints are believed to be among the potential suitors. The Saints have made no secret of their desire to acquire a middle linebacker, as they've already made an offer to former Dolphin Zach Thomas. Former Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson was recently hired by the Jaguars as an assistant, which explains their interest.

Under Henderson, who ran a 4-3 defense, Vilma was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2004. In 2005, he made the Pro Bowl as an alternate, looking like one of the Jets' best first-round picks in years.

Welcome to the 4-3 Defense and Welcome to the saints.. you'll fit right in..

Now, though, he loves the Saints. So much so that he's already started talking about himself and is new team as one. Like when he said "We have a good nucleus" and "Hopefully we can get back to the NFC Championship Game like we did two years ago."

He really seems to want to be here. It doesn't sound at all like he had to be talked into coming to New Orleans.

I think it is a question of being wanted - he said as much. We were willing to trade for him and maybe the fact that Loomis told him he could have been our pick i 2004 also made him feel wanted

Quote from the official site ; It wasn’t until I actually spoke to Mickey (Loomis) last week that I found out they were really considering drafting me in 2004 if I would have been available.”

He does sound like a team player though- in some of those interviews posted he could just as easily had blamed his troubles on the change to 3-4. He didn't do that at all but showed a lot of loyalty to his coaches

#57 was supposedly retired but I remember Colby Bockwoldt had that numer. I think Vilma would look awesome in either one of those numbers if Simmons isn't willing to fork over the #51.

It won't be a problem any more, since Simmons were cut today.

Vilma will get his #51
