VooDoo ADD DB LIN-J SHELL AND WR SALE’ KEY TO ROSTER
For Immediate Release: October 30, 2007

As part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the overall talent level at the offensive and defensive skill positions, the New Orleans VooDoo have agreed to terms with DB Lin-J Shell and signed WR Sale’ Key, it was announced by the club today. This follows on the signing of WR Derrick Lewis on Monday, the first day of the Arena Football League’s free agent signing period. With the additions of Lewis, Shell and Key, the club has signed the top players that they targeted on offense, defense and from af2.

“As a staff, we feel like we have signed three of the top guys on our board,” said VooDoo head coach Mike Neu. “We are extremely excited about being able to add Lin-J and Sale’ on top of Derrick signing with us yesterday.”
Shell (5-11, 185, Jacksonville) comes to the VooDoo after spending the first three seasons of his AFL career with the Orlando Predators. He led the Predators with 110.5 tackles and 18 passes defensed in 2007. Showing a knack for the ball and making plays, he also made four interceptions, caused three fumbles and had three fumble recoveries. In 2006, Shell played in 10 games, where he finished fourth on team with 47 total stops and also recorded two interceptions with six passes defensed and a fumble recovery. In 2003, Shell beat out 300 other hopefuls at an open tryout in Orlando and beat the odds to earn a spot on their active roster, where he had 9 receptions for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns to go with 30.5 total tackles and 4 passes defensed. He also went to training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005. Shell played four seasons at Jacksonville University (FL), recording 122 career tackles (99 solo), while adding 37 pass defenses, 4 tackles for a loss and seven interceptions.
“Lin-J is one of the top young safeties in the AFL and a huge addition for us on defense,” said Neu. “He is poised to have a breakout year after flashing his big play abilities in Orlando, while settling into one of the most difficult positions to play in the game.”
Key (6-4, 220, Idaho State) comes to New Orleans after spending the 2007 season with the Stockton Lightning of af2. He led the Lightning with 129 receptions for 1,584 yards with 41 touchdowns. Prior to joining Stockton, Key went to training camp with the Las Vegas Gladiators and competed for a roster spot. He appeared in six games for the Utah Blaze in 2006 and made six tackles. Key spent his first professional season with the af2 ArenaCup champion Memphis Xplorers, where he tallied 15 catches for 195 yards and five touchdowns in four regular season games and played a key role in their playoff run. He played four years at Idaho State and finished as the program's career reception leader with 187 catches and caught a pass in a school-record 38 straight games. Key finished second on the Bengals all-time lists for touchdowns and in receiving yards, while leading the Bengals with 942 receiving yards, nine touchdowns, and 67 catches as a senior in 2004.

“Sale’ has been in the Arena Football League and benefitted from going to play a2 for a year, where he caught a lot of footballs and made a lot of plays,” said Neu. “He has a rare combination of size, speed and athletic ability that makes him a great addition.

It has also been announced that the club has released WR Mike Horacek.
