How are we even discussing giving up on de la puente, as cheap as he is? He played like a top 10 center last year.
He is not going to stay cheap that is the point. No one is giving up on him. Stop being dramatic.
The OP actually has a very valid point and if somehow we could extend him and get him on the cheap for the next 3 years or so that would be very smart on our part.

We might extend him. I guess it depends on $$$. My only point is this draft has some mid round rookie talent at C which could give us another option for a cheap multi-year solution.
It does not mean I want to replace him. Just offering other options that the saints might look for as an alternative.
