Wealth Inequality Chart (1 Viewer)

That made me want to cry or yell while I watched it, but honestly, what can I do about it? I just read an article elsewhere, just some little blurb at TMZ or something, that mentioned Brendan Fraser's financial woes. The guy spends more per month in alimony than my husband and I earn in a year, and he got it by playing dress-up and make-believe. He's just a B-grade actor. How much are the people who actually run things making?

I'm not saying someone should take all Fraser's money and give it to me -- or to anyone else, for that matter -- but no amount of talking about how hopeless it is to be one of the 99 percent will change things. At this point, there's really not much else to do but shrug your shoulders and enjoy the fact that Rouse's has a 10 for $10 special on those cheap frozen pizzas.

If that information is accurate.WOW! I'm pretty cynical but I didn't imagine things to be that bad.

Wealth inequality? Do you think that wealth should be distributed evenly for some reason? Who's job would that be?

edit: I had originally summed up the video in this post but deleted it because it really should be watched. But Bleu, this is not a suggestion that we go to socialism.

Problem is that this country set up government to where it is impossible to do anything about it and a mere fraction of the 1% guys wealth is more than enough to help ensure that it won't change. It trickles down but not beyond Washington.

side note: James, it would help if you give more than IDK in an original post. Some people won't bother clicking on just a link (I almost didn't).

I wonder who these 100 people are they asked....

Also, it doesn't take $1,000,000 to get by in the country. You can live well enough and provide for your family on $100,000 per year (household income). Get an education, work hard and find an industry that pays a good salary.

Not everyone is meant to be a CEO, Hedgefund Manager, Attorney, CPA or Doctor and there is nothing wrong with other jobs that still pay a great salary.

Inequality of wealth is not the issue - inequality of opportunity is. It is the government's responsibility (as the representative of all the people) to ensure that opportunity exists. Videos such as this one help to educate people but much more needs to be done because, for every video such as this, there are many more that are telling people how wonderful things are. The media that is trying to tell people just how well of they are and how things don't need to change (or, for example, that by giving that top 20% even more money, it will somehow help everyone) are paid for by that same top percentile. Washington listens to them because they can get the votes.

Until people in this country begin to educate themselves on just how the economy really works and how this shell game is being perpetrated on them and fight back at the ballot box, it will not change.

Me? I don't have much hope for that either.

But the majority of people don't want a handout. They just want a fair shot at the so-called American Dream. There is a lot of propaganda telling people that they have that shot but the reality is quite different.

The thing is competition. Not everyone can compete for a job that our politicians swayed off to immigrants for cheaper. They allowed it to get out of hand by keeping more money for themselves. Greed. We talk about this almost daily at work. In actuality it's impossible to fix this short term and long term? It'll take at least a century to see change. You want change? You have to cut it off and reinstate it at the helm. Here's a metaphor which is what's going on: you have an overgrown wild bush, shrub or weed that is trash. Instead of cutting it at the root or right above the root, you're pruning the damn thing so that you're prolonging it from getting out of control but eventually it will. In this case it's getting out of control. You can't keep pruning. You have to kill it and start over which is 1000% unlikely to happen.

rich get richer, been the saying for as long as I can remember. This is America.

That's why everyone one wants to come here. In other countries no one outside political elite can get richer. People spend too much time complaining about rich getting richer and not enough figuring out how to become a rich person getting richer.
