To me, it's not the shanks that bother me. It's when we punt near midfield and we can't pin the other team inside the 20 yard line. I've been noticing this for several weeks now. While Weatherford hasn't been bad, I don't think his punting has been as good as Berger's.
I agree, Berger had 56 punts inside the 20 over the last two seasons compared to Weatherford who has had 12 insided the 20 and 7 touchbacks. That means Weatherford would have to kick 44 staight punts inside the 20 without kicking it into the end zone before he was up to par with Berger. Weatherford has been comparable to Berger with yardage with Berger the slight edge and Weatherford's net average is 36.6 compared to Berger's 38.8 over the last two seasons.
Like Spam mentioned, he also does not do kickoffs and he effectively takes up two roster spots instead of just one.
Don't get me wrong, he has been great for a rookie but he needs to step his game up to keep his roster spot next year.
