Evening all! Same deal as last week really - just posting up the link (above) to our snap counts (including run/pass split), individual player grades and analysis for the Saints week 2 game against the Giants.

As always - feel free to fire any questions and/or call out any of the grades below. We'll always check back on the thread and are more than happy to discuss and debate.

Also, realise we're a bit late on getting our grades live this week - but do at least hope the read helps pass some time until Monday night...!

I appreciate all the time you took to put that out. However, for you to mention the block fg and put it on Peat alone is flat out false and in poor taste. I will go to my grave knowing that Armstead did nothing on that fg. In fact I would say 10% on Peat and 90% on Armstead. It would be nice if you didn't have the same bias against Peat that most of this board seems to have.

Sorry to get on you because I really like well thought out analysis but giving Armstead a pass is inexcusable.

Ah no need to apologise at all - with anything like this there's always going to be a range of different opinions so always happy to debate.

With that particular FG play though - I just felt that it seemed the overall liability for Hankins getting to the ball was more on Peat. Admittedly I'm no FG blocking assignment expert and the below could be entirely incorrect, but the way I saw it was the onus was on Armstead to keep Pierre-Paul outside him, and on Peat to keep Harrison outside him - and then both players would be in position to block the path of Hankins on the inside. As it was, Armstead seemed to keep Pierre-Paul on the outside but Peat appeared to allow Harrison to move inside initially which then meant Hankins was able to run right over Peat.

As I say - the above could well be wrong - and I can certainly understand how yourself and others see it another way and put it more on Armstead - especially if you feel each player should only be covering their inside gaps.

As for the bias - we certainly try and avoid any of that and make sure the grades are only based on the game film from that particular week. With Peat - we haven't graded him out negatively in either game of 2016 so far - so I don't think we're being unduly harsh on him. I think in general he's actually done pretty well at left guard so far...

First and most important thing you must do on FG is to seal the inside.
Peat did his job...Armstead not so much on that play.

On the next FG (which was good) did Armstead blocked very well and actually helped out Peat who struggeld this time due to a stunt.

Haven't watched the play again but yeah, pretty much block inside gap is the norm.

Every analyst I've heard talking about that blocked FG has stated that Armstead was the main reason for the block, not Peat. You're entitled to your opinion, but that portion of your analysis is completely incorrect. Otherwise, this is a very good read.

Solid read, although the spell checker bit you a couple of times.

Thanks all.

Looking at the feedback from y'all on FG blocking assignments I think it's pretty safe to say we've got that play wrong and it was actually on Armstead. Special teams is no doubt the area we know least about collectively (which is basically the reason we decided not to count any of those plays towards our overall grades) but we'll certainly remember what's been said here for any FG blocking mishaps we do decide to mention in the future.

As for the spell check... it's an absolute nightmare! I got a new laptop last week and it seems to autocorrect pretty much every player's name and I can't find a way to turn it off. "Belito", "Trees", "Strife"... the list is endless! Have to go back through and correct them all manually so not surprised a few slipped through the net - will try and find a way to sort it out for next week.

While Armstead may have been at fault for letting his man penetrate too far, the fact that Lutz kicked it at a low trajectory was the bigger problem. Lutz seems to do that often, and if he doesn't correct that, we're going to need another kicker.

I don't agree with the grades, how does Peat get AVG , when he caused a 10 point swing in the game and was poor, yet many others got poor ratings that might have been exaggerated , and Moore got AVG , and he SHUT DOWN obj, the defense gave up less than 10 pts and deserved a better grade, the OL well they were bad

what is depressing is how on the tv they said the giant's special teams coach recognized something on film and was trying to exploit the weakness. when was the last time the saint's special team coach ever did something like that? :jpshakehead:
