We aren't even coming close to the playoffs. Even if somehow we win 6 of the last 9 games, that only puts us at 8 and 9. We'd likely have to win 8 of the last 9 to even have a shot at the playoffs. That's not happening.

We need to keep DA for the remainder of the season because he stinks and that'll almost guarantee a higher draft pick. We then need to hire Ben Johnson and, assuming we only win 1 or 2 more games this season (or none), we'll have a top-2 pick in the draft. Draft Shedeur Sanders or Quin Ewers - both are elite, special QBs. Let's start from scratch on offense.

Just my hopeful opinion halfway through this embarrassing season.

I agree with the concept, but I don't think any of these QBs are worthy of a top 10 pick and even if Sanders is, I don't want him anywhere near the Saints. I'm in Colorado and the kid has major attitude issues that aren't helped by his dad right now.

There will be competition to hire a new coach, and with the current roster and cap situation, the saints will not be the most attractive option. I sincerely doubt we can bring Johnson here.

The new coach should get at least a 5 year deal, considering it will take 2 years to clean cap and roster and 3 to build up a new one.

For the ones that think that we are not that far, the results speak for themselves.

And regarding quarterbacks I am not impressed with Ewers or Sanders. If it was me, I will draft early defensive and offensive line, and get a quarterback at year 2 or 3 of the rebuild.

Doubt Ben Johnson wants anything to do with us. Cap is forked for the next few years, Loomis calls the shots, about the only positive we have is we can say that we didn't fire the worst coach in the league for a couple years so he'll have time to right the ship.

Right HC, Right QB can change a teams forturnes. I'm all for it.

I've watched a few of his interviews and the guy is thoughtful, meticulous in his responses and yet drips personality

The results speak for having a bad head coach. There is some talent on this team to build around and a short term solid starting QB in Carr. Certainly we need some key additions at pass rusher, run stopping DT, and WR/TE (and we need a franchise QB) but we aren't that far off from a 8 or 9 win team if we had a good head coach. The rest is up to that coach to build.

It's not like any of the jobs that will be available won't have their own issues. What job do you think will be clearly above this one?

Jeanty or McMillan, or trade back and get additional 2025 picks and additional 2026 1, 2 and 3. Turn one pick into five starters. That's the type of draft moves this team needs.

There are no QB in this draft that are worth of that high a pick. Additional upper management in this organization is so screwed up no way Johnson comes here

Neither of those QBs are elite and both probably would have gone behind Nix had they been in the draft last year.
Nah, if we are being honest, the only reason Shadeur gets hate is because of his dad. He is a much better passer than most who were drafted this season.

Time will tell but here's what I think.

I think following the 2021 season, we hired Allen w/ the thought this was still a competitive team. We know this because they were still aggressive about trading up to get, what at the time seemed like our two biggest weaknesses, Wide Receiver and LT. Armstead at the time would miss 8-10 games a year and there was no complimentary piece to Thomas after the departure of Ted Ginn. We also went after Watson very aggressively, so they were still in that "winning window" mindset.

Olave is just good, Penning is a wash, and Taylor was a "strengthen a strength" pick. You go 7-10 and then reality sets in.

Their attitude changed, and i know this because the 2023 draft had 7 players. Last time they did that was 2017 when they were trying to build a new nucleus. They followed that up w/ another 7 man class in 2024. That is the opposite of what they do when they are chasing a window. Those draft clases tend to be small and targeted w/ filling specific gaps.

The diffrence in draft classes also coincides w/ minimzing spending in FA. Just like in 2017 it was modest, no one over priced.
  • 2017: A.J. Klein, Larry Warford, Manti Te’o, Ted Ginn Jr., Adrian Peterson, Chase Daniel, Alex Okafor

The problem is they didn't hit much on last years class, the 2022 class was average, and this years class also looks solid, but nothing like that 2017 draft, where they added several great or players that had the potential to be great. Maybe Taylor or Fuaga have that ability but it's nowhere near the reboot they got from the AK class.

So, they only have two options. Reset next year, new QB and new HC or...Keep Allen, try to get some capital for Ireland and see if you can get a 2017 level class next year.
