Welp we lost Murray to the Broncos (1 Viewer)

Looking at the game log again, our offense was pretty ineffective on the drives where he wasn't in.

In the first half he was the lead RB that helped us get our first first down on our only TD drive.

In the second half Ingram was the lead back on the first drive which went nowhere. Then Murray took over and was a huge part of getting us TD's on our next 2 drives, offense basically went through him for the first few plays each drive.

Not to mention he's the first RB we've had that didn't kill a drive or put points on the board for the other team with a fumble...
This is what I’ve noticed all along. I know Kamara is a special talent but this same thing applies to him. Our run game is not the same unless LT is running the rock. Kamara does not have that effect only in the passing game. Which says a lot if he’s listed as a running back

Allen and Carmichael probably didn’t see Murray’s performance as sustainable long term since he’s 32. But they definitely should’ve immediately sign him to the active roster Monday morning.

The team and Murray could’ve decided to mutually allow him to seek bigger playing time for the rest of the season. He wasn’t going to get it here as a third rotational back that’s sparingly used unless Kamara or Ingram is hurt.

Who would be released or IR'd to allow this to have happened?

Any one of Tony Jones, Damarcus Fields, or Jake Luton could’ve been cut for Murray.

But it’s clear that Murray didn’t want to be stuck on the bench behind two more prioritized backs for the rest of the season.
Exactly.

Melvin Gordon has been a fumble machine in Denver. Murray could conceivably be their number-1 back for the rest of the season.

If this is the case then it is what it is. Would’ve loved to have kept him.
Agree, but it’s apparent when players have a choice of Saints or others….others win the majority of the time.

Like Jarvis Landry? Tyrann Mathieu? Any other FA we’ve signed.

These narratives have to stop. Murray went to a team where he might be their featured back over a team that features Alvin Kamara.

Home grown on both, so there is some emotional tie to Louisiana. To get where we want to get, we have to win the Watson, Suh, etc. type battles. Sean left partly because as good a FA recruiter he is, he tired of losing the battles to a franchise with no juice. OBJ perfect example last year.

wait…I thought we never signed Louisiana players. So which is it? Lol.

Bottom line: 99.9% of the time, players go where the most $ (or opportunity to make $) is. Those times we didn’t sign players, we either didn’t have the best $ offer or didn’t offer the best chance to make more $ later.

It’s the same thing any of us would do in any of our jobs.

Blaming it on the Saints organization’s inability to recruit is silly.

What bad decisions specifically?

People are melting over Murray as if RBs like him aren't a dime a dozen in the NFL.
- Having about 5 years to prepare for Brees’ retirement but only managing to leave us with Jameis Winston.
- Spending 2 1sts on Davenport.
- Trading away next years 1st when we didn’t know whether we had a franchise QB or not. Good chance that pick ends up being top 10.
- Hired Dennis Allen.
- Having to let Trey Hendrickson walk in order to tag Marcus Williams, only for Williams to then leave a year later.

He was our best rb right now. We should have offered him more money and more playing time.
When would you have preferred for us to offer more money and playing time to LT? Was it when 31 other teams had ignored him up until yesterday or before he started to binge “Stranger Things”, while on his coach for the entire Summer?

The way Practice Squad rules go, apparently, we couldn’t offer LT another contract until Tuesday, which is today. Had Mickey given a rusty 32 old RB#2/3 a starting salary, before he played a game for us this board would’ve erupted. The front office had the foresight to pick LT up in the first place. What they didn’t predict was that Denver’s prominent back would blow his knee.

Furthermore, why would the office offer a non blocking, non catching RB more playing time than the versatile backs already on our roster? I love LT, but he’s limited as an RB. He’s a liability in blitz pick up and can’t be used consistently in the pass game. His value is strictly in running the rock. He looked fresh b/c he was fresh. He had no Training Camp nor traditional off season. At 32, he could very well look ancient by his 3rd game. At the very least, our other top two backs offer other abilities.

I get that we aren’t where most of us had hoped the team would be win wise. But many of these critiques have been mostly emotional and absent of facts.
