Welp we lost Murray to the Broncos (1 Viewer)

-he ranked 7th in QBR with the worst pass-catching group in the entire league. Not sure what you want out of him.

-you really need to look up what an NFL bust is if you think Davenport is a bust lol

-that’s a massive assumption. We have no clue if we could have made the same deal.

-the point is incorrect in a salary cap league. You have to pick and choose where you spend.

Anything else?
No, I think you do. “A draft bust is a highly touted or highly selected draftee who does not meet expectations. This can be due to a variety of reasons, but the most often noted are injury and/or inability to perform at a professional level.” Davenport is the definition of a bust, he cost 2 firsts and has 19.5 sacks in 4 seasons because he can’t stay healthy.

It’s hardly a massive assumption. Obviously we don’t know exactly what the cost would have been but there is hardly a huge difference between trading up from 16 and trading up from 18. No one needs a time machine to see that we could have got Olave without giving up our 2023 first.

And the point, quite literally, isn’t “incorrect”. We tagged Marcus Williams at $13.5 million. Hendrickson signed a long term contract with the Bengals and his 2021 cap hit was $12.5 million. It would have cost less, for the 2021 season, to extend him instead of tagging Williams.

The only reason the Saints would've had to do this if if some clairvoyant fairy whispered it into Loomis or Allen's ear ahead of time. Because none of the people complaining about losing Murray was banging on about keeping him from leaving.

This is a hindsight is 20/20 situation. Nothing more.
I tend to agree with this considering the league basically considered him done. Moving forward though, this last game with Murray shows we are seriously lacking at RB to pair with Kamara or to replace Kamara when he is out. Unlikely we strike gold with another RB sitting at home right now so it's either trade for one or get serious about drafting one next year.

“Does not meet expectations?” Lol!!

So that means like over 50% of first round picks are busts, by that definition.

And sorry. But Davenport has been quite good when he’s on the field, and his presence is missed when he’s not. He’s still not even in his prime. Plenty of time to add consistency.

It is a massive assumption on Olave. We got lucky the Jets drafted Wilson and anyone else could have offered a better package after that. You can’t just assume we could have satisfied what they wanted. Doesn’t work that way.

I don’t even know what you’re talking about on Williams/Hendrickson. We kept two good players as long as it made financial sense. Then we moved on.

No organization is perfect. But the stuff you’ve pointed out is a real stretch.

And after practice and playing him in the game we saw first hand how good he still looks it’s not even an argument.

Bottom line there is a problem with player evaluation and decision making Stevie Wonder can see it would have been the right choice to sign LM to the active roster.
After playing him in the game he chose to sign with Denver. End of discussion.

We tried. He chose Denver over us. Nick Underhill explained it on his pod: he was essentially a free agent and we couldn’t do any more to “keep” him from going elsewhere.

And it’s a smart decision. He could be starting there.

"Latavius Murray signed a 1 year, $1,120,000 contract with the Denver Broncos..."

Where is the starting money?
The front office could not offer LT a new contract before Tuesday.

Again, giving a mil to a 32 yr old relief back, who hadn’t played since maybe December of last year wouldn’t have been wise. We needed to see him in live action before signing him to a one year deal. That’s not an unreasonable or ridiculous way to scout. The front office didn’t drop the ball here, but some of you are bent set on finding something to rage over.

LT chose to go to Denver. All the gnashing of teeth in the world won’t change that reality or the fact the front office had no control over Denver poaching him.

Wrong The saints could’ve and should’ve signed Murray the week before the game they instead left him on the practice squad then and only then after the game Murray could decide. Murray and Alvin have never got along.
You want the Saints to start signing every athlete who workouts for us? Just assume LT would be great at game time despite him not having been in live action since last season? If we were to start throwing money around indiscriminately based off of other teams possibly poaching our PS players, we‘ll really become a dysfunctional organization.

I get losing has folks agitated, but at some point people are gonna need to take a breath and use logic. Murray did what was best for him. There ultimate decision was not in our hands it was in his. It is what it is. We move on.

He tried out and practiced with the Saints two weeks before even playing in the London game the coaches couldn’t determine Murray looks better than all of the RBs not named Kamara and move him off the practice squad and into the active roster?

This is wrong, if they made an offer he could refuse denver and wait for tuesday or whatever to stay a saint. If murray left is because they did not offer him enough to stay. 1 million is nothing. Now we are back to hurt Kamara and ineffective Ingram.

Murray did the best for him because the saints did not offer something better. You can't take this responsibility away from the saints. If they offered something better the best for Murray would be to stay. Since they did not Murray choose leaving was the best for him.

This is not wrong. How many times does the situation have to be explained? You wanted the Saints to offer a million dollars just because LT was a warm body? You say 1 mil is nothing. If so, think about the fact Denver lost its top back, was desperate to replace him, and still “only” offered Murray 1Mil. Why in tarnation would we have offered LT a cool million dollars, when we weren’t anywhere near the Broncos’ level of desperation two weeks ago? Plus, we hadn’t seen LT in a live game yet? Annnnd he’d likely be used far less with us than he will in Denver? LT was never going to get 1Mil FROM ANYONE TWO WEEKS AGO with all of those unknowables working against him.

The move you’re complaining about us not being proactive in making would be a terrible method to begin implementing. The move you’re complaining about us not being reactive in taking was quite literally against the CBA rules. Time to let it go, sir.

Sir, you’re just arguing to argue now. Murray wanted top playing time. He was never going to usurp Kamara’s time. LT likely would’ve split carries w/Mark given his subpar blitz recognition and limited ability as a versatile back.

I love LT, but he’s essentially a one trick pony. Our backs are primarily versatile. He needed to go where the only thing he needs to focus on is running. That’s just what he did. Trying to make the front office responsible for his personal choice is ridiculous. LT likely left more so over playing time than over pay. If so, good for him. I wish him well. It’s done and over.

How do you know he looked better prior to the game? He’s a 32 year old RB that spent the offseason unemployed. He likely wasn’t even in game shape until he got a couple weeks of practice. Hence why he was on the…wait for it…Practice Squad!!!

Before the game he hadn’t played a single down and spent all offseason on his couch. The entire NFL could have signed him to their active roster before the game and chose not to.
And it was a mistake not too. All off season we were trying out Running Backs for the RB3. None of them have made an impact and most of the ones we tried out we let go. We never even gave LM a tryout, someone who has been a good runner for us before and knows the offense. We then finally bring him back and he has he best game out of all our RBs this season and then Denver snatch him off us. He should of been on the roster at the start of the season instead of Washington and Jones who we know ain’t the answer. Not only would he have been a great RB3 at the time, but with AK struggling to stay healthy and Ingram being finished, he’d be our RB1 until AK came back and be a great RB2 as he is definitely better than Ingram. He’s a good player and now we are back to struggling for RBs like we were before. We have prioritised a finished Mark Ingram over Murray who clearly still has juice left in the tank.

Before the Saints picked him up I seriously doubt Murray was on his couch waiting for a team to call while eating Cheetos all day.
