US actor Roy Scheider, best known for playing the police chief in the Jaws movies, has died at the age of 75.
As well as starring in the first two shark thrillers, Scheider received two Oscar nominations during his career.
He was up for best supporting actor for The French Connection in 1972 and best actor for 1979's All That Jazz.
He died in hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had been treated there for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cell, for the past two years.

RIP

Oh, man. Bummer. Everybody has seen Jaws. If you haven't seen "All That Jazz," give it a try. RIP Roy.

What a bummer.... Little Rock of all places.. I didn;t know that he lived there...

What bothers me is that I am getting older, and all the hero's are dying.

Susan Plyshette
Waylon
Roy S.
John Bonham
Sam Mills

The list is starting to be endless.... It puts things in perspectice... Actors and Celebrities are the same as us.

The calm-but-deadly rebuke Scheider (as Don Falcone) delivers to Gary Oldman in "Romeo Is Bleeding", is one i return to in my mind on a pretty regular basis.

I just heard on a talk radio show that "we're gonna need a bigger boat" was completely ad-libbed by Scheider. Amazing that one of THE most quoted script lines wasn't even in the script!

In addition to those already mentioned, don't forget:
Sorcerer
The Marathon Man
2010
King of Texas (made for TV, this was King Lear updated to a 1900's Texas ranch - it was a little weird, but he and Patrick Stewart were terrific in it)

Do forget:
SeaQuest

Scheider was a great actor with a large number of unforgettable performances. He will be missed greatly and his legacy will live on for a very long time.

My favorite line from Jaws came from Richard Dreyfuss. While getting drunk in the cabin of boat and comparing scars, Dreyfuss opens his shirts, points to nothing apparent on the left side of his chest and says "Mary Ellen Moffet. She broke my heart." :hihi:

Just be thankful it wasnt Rob Schneider because his loss would be too much for humanity to bear.
