my vote would be jerry stiller in the king of queens, playing the part of arthur spooner. i dont think anyone else can play that role better than he did.

another role that could not have been duplicated, is the role of kramer on seinfeld.

+1. The most gifted physical comedian of our time, and the competition's not even very close, IMO.

A couple of candidates:
1. Robin Williams as Mork

2. I hated this show (and I still do), but I have to give grudging admiration to a terrific acting job by Carroll O'Connor (a great actor period) as Archie Bunker. He was completely convincing as the bigoted father. I truly can't watch even two minutes of that sitcom, but he was a terrific actor and I have to give him his due.

3. John Pankow as Ira Buchman. Unlike the stereo-typed fake caricatures of New Yorkers in "Seinfeld", Cousin Ira was truly a typical New Yorker and a priceless character in a completely real "I know that guy" kind of way.

yea i can definitely agree with you on this one, not too many people could have pulled off this role like he did. he pretty much made the show what it was

You have to go with someone that could not be played by anyone else....without a huge drop off.

And I'm too young for all of your granpa's shows....so I go with the Kramer.

To bad Kramer's image was ruined by his tirade on stage last year. Zero respect for the guy. But at least we know he wasn't "acting" the part of Cosmo. The dude is just nuts.

But yeah that character was one of the best. But since mentioned already, I'll name Frank Romano from 'every body loves Raymond'.
