Advocate staff report

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, J.J. Watt, the Houston Texans defensive lineman known for making plenty of plays on the field, made probably his biggest play off of it.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year took to social media, challenging his followers to raise $200,000 to help "rebuild the aspects of our community members lives that were damaged or lost" through his Houston Flood Relief Fund started on the crowdfunding site YouCaring on Aug. 27.

That effort ballooned quickly thanks to an outpouring on social media and some key celebrity contributions, raising more than $18 million in the week since its creation.

Now tasked with how to spend that money, Watt reached out to a familiar face experienced with helping a city recover after a natural disaster -- Drew Brees.

Best advice to give to him. Having all that money and donations come great responsibility. Hope he have some good people around him that knows the right way to distribute the funding to all that needs it. Got to do it slowly and strategically. Don't want a very great cause set up by a great person turn into chaos and confusion.
