Given the way the season started, I believe we were blessed to get to 13-3. We finished tied for our best regular season record. Also, with all the injuries, you have to wonder how DOMINANT we could have been. Oh, well...

To me, the most disappointing things about our season were:

1a. Brees lack of arm strength for the deep ball, and

1b. Finishing among the BEST in fewest turnovers, yet laying an egg with 2 giveaways in the Divisional round. We beat Minny, and I believe we'd be playing this weekend.

Would, coulda, shoulda... yeah, I know.

:gosaints:

1) The team coming out completely unprepared and flat against Atlanta after the by week.

2) The team having no answer to stop a 49er offense after having 10 days to prepare.

3) The team coming out completely unprepared and flat against the Vikings int the Wildcard playoff game...at home.

See a pattern here?

1. Going one and done vs Minnesota. No excuses to lose to an inferior team at home. Just a bad, bad way to waste a fine season.

2. Getting the #3 seed at 13-3 again. I chalked up 2011 as just the football god making amends for us being the #2 seed at 10-6 in 2006, but for us to be #3 at 13-3 AGAIN behind the SAME two teams from 2011, it's getting comical at this point that we seem to be cursed.

The Atlanta game doesn't bother me as much as most because a bad week is bound to happen. GB lost to the Chargers, SF also lost to Atlanta. Yes, you want to win every "gimme" game but sign me up for 13-3 every season knowing that even in our Super Bowl year, we had a whimper against Tampa. Bad games like that happen. To every team. It just sucks that once again we were on the outside looking in. Seems like it only happens to us.

It's easy to say "well next time go 14-2 and you avoid being in this position" but this is the NFL man, it's simply unrealistic to think your team can not have a bad week in a 17 week stretch.

Your #2 was going to be my exact answer.

That, and AK's limitations from injury preventing him from being the same electric playmaker he was the previous 2 seasons.

The day that both Rankins and Davenport went on IR I knew we had lost our opportunity to win a ring this year. Even if we had gotten past Minnesota, we weren't getting anywhere without the dominant pass rush we had all season long. It was carrying our defense and it was masking some real liabilities in the back 7. They were both also really good against the run.

This forum was most disappointing for me. Football is just a game. It’s just entertainment. But we’re supposed to be fans. There were so many “Fire this guy” “cut this guy” “this guy doesn’t deserve to see an nfl field” etc etc etc. just mind numbing at times.

losing brees sucked at first, but got thru it, the atlanta game was the worst. and we were still in it til the end.

losing cook in the 49ers game was game changing. i think we win that game if he didnt get knocked out.

also, just looking lost in minnesota.

How it ended: eliminated in the 1st round. We just had some bad luck at the end of the day. The Seahawks barely lost to the 49ers and no one could stop Greenbay. I believe if we had a 1st round bye, we could have been playing in the Super Bowl this weekend.
