What did the Bills do on Defense? (1 Viewer)

That statement is unfair. Brees had time on multiple plays but the coverage was good, leading to a sack or throw away. Give the Bills coverage some credit. Unfortunately for them, it left them a little more vulnerable against the run and we took advantage of it.

Bills coverage wasnt bad, but Brees has eviscerated good coverage in the past. Two issues present in that. One, he got knocked around early which always rattles a QB, and two we had extra blockers in on most every play he had time on from the 2nd quarter on.

Is there anything the Bill's defense did today that other teams can take from?

Sure....tight coverages, and pressure up the middle....Brees seems uncomfortable when he sees LBs in his face....who wouldn't?...plus, in this game we needed all the help at the OTs, who had problems containing the DEs....

But that can be corrected....We might have this very same problems in hostile environments.....but not when we play at home....the noise will have an adverse affect on the pass rush...and once we shore up the middle Brees will benefit greatly.

Bears have done this in the past, pressure up the middle, overloading the middle. OT's did a decent job. We had Strief going up against a pro bowler, who was giving Matt Light problems the other week and got a sack against him, this week Matt Light dominated Abraham. So I think Strief did a good job considering he is not the starter and he is still recovering from the knee injury, I dont recall any plays that where he gave up considerable pressure. Mainly pressure from the middle.

Pressure up the middle, they attacked Godwin...fortunately for us most teams don't have a 6'7 DT or a DT combo like the Bills do. Tuck will give us trouble.

Any of you guys with a Tivo and film dissecting experience have any input?

Could see they had good rush and disrupted Drew's footwork. But anything else special?

Was Drew just off after getting hit a couple times, maybe hurting from the sore shoulder?

Or were they jamming receivers also and disrupting the timing?

Just wondering how easily the Jets or anyone else can duplicate the effort.

Nothing new. They employed the strategy that has typically worked against our offense.
Jammed receivers at line to disrupt timing of routes.
Rushed 4 (pretty effectively) and dropped 7 on most downs.
When blitzing, put pressure on the middle of the line to keep Brees from stepping up.

Actually, they only employed what other teams have done against us successfully. The difference is that our defense kept us in the game and our running game was effective enough to counter what the Bills' were doing. I give Payton credit for going to the running game in the second half and not pressing the pass. I think the play of the defense made him feel "comfortable" doing that.
