What do you collect? (1 Viewer)

One of my professors was talking about the Superdome roof, and how it was springing a bunch of leaks and no one knew why. Turns out there were hundreds of bullet holes in the roof - most of it as you probably know is from people shooting into the air on New Years.
Yeah I always figured most of the bullets I've found were shot during New Years and 4th of July. Would've loved to have been on the Superdome roof to find all those bullets. My collection would be massive!!

Just wanting to share this for some reason... I picked this up recently... You all have seen the posters during WWII that said "Buy Bonds" and war Bonds and Bond Drives.... Well..

Here is a WWII War Savings Bond uncashed.. I think it's cool.

I used to collect bicentennial quarters when I was a kid. Then my ex raided my coin collection and used them all without my permission. I have a collection of foreign coins still.

I will be dogged... I have been thinking about making this very thread...

I collect WWII items and I have been thinking about showing this collection here on SR.com. I have one bedroom here that is an actual little museum...

Would anyone like to actually like see this collection?

Absolutely!

Souls.

And old US coins I come across randomly, like wheat pennies. But I just toss them in a jar.

I have a fairly large collection of concert ticket stubs. My first was in 1972, Iron Butterfly at Reed Green Coliseum on the Southern Miss campus. I went to just about every Rock & Roll concert any where near me in the 70's and 80's.

Silver of all sorts. Coins are cool, but I love jewelry too. Don’t get me wrong I like the gold and stones as well, but silver is my jam.

Anyone want to get rid of gold, silver or stones, hit me up.

Model schooners.

My dad and I built one when I was a kid. It took forever, but absolutely fascinating. I wish I still had it. What was your favorite to build?

Like I said. I collect all things WWII from all countries. One room looks like a US WWII Field HQ in Europe.. That is the main theme. But I also enjoy specialty items... Like Christmas, Food, Music and Oklahoma, plus the US Home Front 1900-1945.. I know 1900-38 is not WWII, but people born in 1908 like my grandfather who was 33 when the war started for the US.

anyways.. I wanted to go ahead and share these items that I own.

The USS New Orleans was a Heavy Cruiser. Although this menu is dated 1940, that is before the US entered the war, the USSNO was in the Pacific training with the Hawaiian fleet. She was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th and received minimal damage. She had only shorepower so her Anti Aircraft guns had to be operated manually.

The USSNO was Coral Sea, Midway, The eastern Solomons and Tassafaronga. At Tassafaronga she took a torpedo to the bow.. and later sailed stern first all the way from Australia to Puget Sound Washington for repairs.

The 825 Tank Destroyer Battalion was in France in 1944 and Parts of the unit were sent into combat as part of an ad hoc task force on 16 December 1944, on the northern flank of the Ardennes Offensive, where it defended Amblève river bridges at Malmedy during the Battle of the Bulge. It is interesting how the Officer that did this mentions being in a foreign land.

I love anything to do with WWII in the Pacific as my dad was in the Army and fought the Japanese there during the war. He loved General Douglas MacArthur and kept a picture of him on the wall of his bedroom till the day he died, I now have that picture.

Also my mother's brother, Toxie Anderson, died on Jan 3, 1944 when his ship the USS Turner, a Gleaves class destroyer sank off NY harbor. It suffered a series of internal explosions taking down 123 enlisted men and 15 officers.
