...the Saints being in a position to draft JaMarcus Russell if he comes out? Would he be a first rounder? Could the Saints get him in the 2nd round? Would we be able to justify drafting him high. The kid is just great. Just imagine him learning for about two seasons under Drew Brees.

I know we don't necessarily need a QB, but wouldn't it be like the Texans passing on a Reggie Bush type of talent? Let's assume that we would be picking late in the first or even last(Superbowl.) Do we take him there if he's available? I know he won't play for a least two or three seasons but it would give him the chance to learn from one of the best game managers around in Drew. Any thoughts?

IMO I would pass on spendign a high draft choice on a QB right now -- Brees has a bunch of good years left and I think it would be better to try to find a diamond in the ruff to be groomed as a backup

Plus -- with Thomas getting a little old -- and our CB situation not ideal we have more pressing needs

I wouldn't waste a pick on a QB either. Russell doesn't impress me. I also know some inside sources for LSU and they all tell me he throws it so hard because he is not always sure where his receivers will run there routes. Also was told in practice he would forget the play after the huddle would break and get to the line. Sounds to me not a guy going to make it in the NFL. Russell is a backup at best.

Don't believe all that you hear or half of what you see...

I think he will be a great NFL QB.

These are sources coming straight from LSU football staff. This is sources that want LSU to win every week and won't except nothing less. But as you state I am not there. |Just letting you know what I hear from LSU football staff.

Russell is not that much better than Aaron Brooks IMO. Less turnovers but he cant manage a game. Ex. Auburn. 3 sec left on the clock you have to throw it in the endzone. He throws it at the 10yd line.We dont need him and I really dont want him replacing Drew when the time comes and Im hoping thats at least 4+ years down the road.

Personally, I don't care for Russell. I don't think he's all that good of a QB. He looks plodding at times and slow to read and react at others. He locks in on a reciever and telegraphs his throws. His biggest asset is his size, but even at that he's too heavy. I don't know, just too many holes in his game.

I saw Jamarcus in the airport, he is one of the largest humans I have ever seen. He looked like a lineman. I see why he is so hard to bring down. He's a 2nd round pick.

Jamarcus is a good prospect at QB in the NFL. But he isn't the type of QB you want to run the Saints offense. Jamarcus would be a good backup for McNabb, Palmer, or maybe Eli Manning, but not for Drew Brees.
