First he predicts the Saints would lose seven in a row, now he says ATL and Carolina are the two best teams in the NFC South ...on paper????

The Panthers spent three years acquiring defensive players to stop him. They added speed at the corners to contain him in the pocket. Vick caught the Panthers cold in the opener with a 20-6 victory in Charlotte. Most of the division races will be formalities by Christmas. This one should still be undecided.

not that I am really trying to defend John Clayton.

Clayton and Salisbury are both saying now the Saints will be lucky to be a wildcard team. There's lots of factors why neither like the Saints. The biggest has to be that the team is making them look like idiots with their preseason predictions. IIRC both precdicted the Saints to be 6-10 or worse (didn't Clayton say the Saints would be lucky to win 4 games?) and easily the worst team in the NFC South. So both keep predicting a long losing streak for the Saints. Well, Haslett's Saints would have happily complied, I get the feeling that Payton's Saints are going to continue to make these two "experts" look like idiots......

Unfortunately for him, and all the other "paper prognosticators, the games are played ON THE FIELD........not on paper. Accordingly, those paper predictions are a waste of the paper they're printed on.

All that said, try to cut John a little slack. Have you seen him lately? He's a very sickly looking boy... Perhaps that may explain his bouts of delirium?!

Come on guys he thinks he knows whats going on and thinks the Saints will loose but I think it is safe to say he is looking for ways for us not to win the division. I wrote this yesterday maybe he should read it:

All predictions are based on past performances. In sports, they correlate it with draft picks, who they think will contribute immediately, and free agents acquisitions.

The problems: young players may improve, coaches can learn, older players can decline, and average players can out perform, as well as, under perform. Sometimes, they even predict who will do the above for the next year. A supposition based on a supposition.

As someone noted, no one likes to be wrong. Losing to the Ravens like we did, only gave a breathe of new life that they won't be wrong.

Another problem is people give them far toomuch credit for their opinion. A sportswriter has no more the observation skills than I possessed. A former player can draw upon his own experiences, but he still only observing. There is no reason to get all hyped up when they say great or bad things about any team. Think about it, how often do you wonder if you are watching the same game as the "analyst?"
