raining camp is quickly approaching for the NFL’s 32 teams ahead of the 2018 season. Most of the league is hopeful that they can make a run to the playoffs, though only a couple are considered to be near locks to reach the postseason.
The New England Patriots are the favorites to win Super Bowl LIII, and it would be stunning if the defending AFC champs didn’t have a 2019 playoff game. With -1500 odds to make the postseason, they are nearly three times as likely to make the playoffs as anyone else.
The only other team that comes close to being considered a playoff guarantee is the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are -550 favorites to make the postseason with +375 odds to finish outside of the AFC’s top six.
New England has played in three of the last four Super Bowls and won nine consecutive AFC East titles, failing to reach the playoffs just once in the last 15 seasons. Pittsburgh has won back-to-back AFC North crowns with four straight postseason appearances. The Steelers last finished with a losing record in 2003, the year before they drafted Ben Roethlisberger.
