What position do we go for in the First Round? (1 Viewer)

Im thinking maybe NT,DE,CB
but Im really hoping we can get Vacarro

I think we're ok at DE now we're changing to a 3-4, with Jordan, Hicks, Johnson, Walker, Broughton and with Will Smith coming back as well.

It's OLB, NT, S, CB, one of those.

I don't seeing us taking an OT in the first round even if Bushrod is gone. There's plenty of scope for a replacement at a good price with all these tackles going on the market. Plus I think all the best ones, Joeckel, Fisher and Johnson will be taken.

This thinking baffles me. Do people who think this, forget that our offense and Drew Brees is the only reason we're a playoff contender at all? We're talking about the mo r,
Kmst important position on the team that plays a big role in Drew Brees health. If he gets injured, we're not going to the playoffs, and no single defender we draft is gonna give us a good enough defense to make the playoffs without a healthy Brees. But thats extreme. Even if Brees takes a beating and stays healthy, do people really expect him to play at a top 10 level when he has to worry about constant pressure from his blindside?

There is going to be a run on O-lineman and D-lineman. We may see 5 tackles in the 1st round. I know everyone hates reality, but there is a huge probability that the top two Wideouts will be there when we pick and they have great value. I don't like the idea of reaching for a tackle at all, there is no way I'd be happy drafting a Dallas Thomas at 15 because he is the best tackle left on the board.

time will tell. wait after ML signs free agents.go. with biggest need. just ahunch.but im betting on vacarro.

I say we get Tavon Austin and become unstoppable :). We seemed to be in search of another speed guy at the tail end of last year anyway when we brought in Deion Butler, Jason Hill, and ended up ultimately signing Hakim. Devery is probably gone, Austin could be what we expected Cadet to be.

Really like Jarvis Jones, Ansah, Mingo as possibilities but it's beginning to look as if there will be a huge run on pass rushers at the top of the draft. Makes you wonder what will be left at 15. Austin? Elam? Vacarro? I'd definitely take Elam over Vacarro.

I'm in the camp of we NEED to take one of these Tackles. The OL class looks damn good in this draft... and we could use one or more of them.

This has the potential to be one of the most interesting drafts in history. Normally, you'd go BPA, but what if everyone grades out pretty much the same? That seems to be the case at a lot of positions this year. And, as important, there is some real depth in this year's draft. If that's the case, could you not make a case for drafting based on a run? If there is a run at one position, grab that position because there won't be anyone available in later rounds whereas there will still likely be a high grade player available at one of the other positions.

Everyone says we need an OLB but it breaks down a little more than that as there is aSAM and Jack linebackers also called WILL.

The jack is responsible for 2 things run defense and rushing the passer. This fits Gallette perfectly he had 4.5 sacks last year playing 25% of the snaps and at DE. Move him to Jack and give him 65% if the snaps you're looking at 12-15 sacks.

The SAM linebacker adds in coverage duty on top of the Jack and while Wilson has the athletic skill, his instincts worry me some. I think at least for this year he plays the Joker spot meaning he rotates as a rush specialist among the different LB spots.

We need 2 SAM linebackers and a vet Jack. I believe Victor Butler will come with Ryan and he compete with Junior for the Jack starter.

I like Dion Jordan at 15 and Cooper Taylor in the 5th for our SAMs.

We need a back up at RDE behins C Jordan and that will most likely be Will Smith .

We need depth behind Bunkley at NT but that can be addressed in the draft with a guy like Kwame Geathers in the 3rd.

Malcolm Jenkins should move back to CB and be our nickel and then sign Glover Quinn in free agency.
Hopefully Bushrod is retained for a year and we grab a guy to take over next year. The only way we take a LT at 15 is if Fisher or Johnson slides.
