Sounds funny but I think sometimes the material is bad (poor quality/weird fibers) to begin with. I've tried the experiment you're doing now, RCS, and found that with some fabrics, there's just no winning. Same with kid's shoes. Some will wash clean, no problem. Others have that chemically-plasticy smell that just gets worse with age.
Besides vinegar or bleach, you might try soaking in Oxyclean.
If it doesn't wash clean with a good bleach soaking - hot water wash - toss it.
I think it's the residual odor from the witch's brew.If you're not using bleach, it won't go away.
Use colorsafe bleach.
If that doesn't work, maybe you need to bleach your body.
Sharon, I think you're right about the fabric quality and all. I even mentioned that to Saint Tia and she wasn't sure. Funny thing is, some of the same towels I have were bought at the same time and are the exact brand, style, etc.
Guess I got a bad batch or something.
I am still going to try the vinegar deal this weekend for future reference, just to see if it works.
For those of you who asked, they are colored (deep red) so bleach won't do it.
Reveresed tie-died anyone? LOL
Just throw the smelly things away!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!
