Every year the initial roster is tentative. Even after it is set other moves get made. And there are always rumors. With that said, tell me what you think about what's being reported now.

Probably Fowler after all the noise he was apparently/supposedly making during camp. Nobody else really comes off as especially surprising to me

Keeping 2 punters, I suspect that there was hope that Clowney would sign and the punter could go to the PS.
Possibly. He could also just be a placeholder for any number of other veterans, like Bennie Fowler. Remember veterans are guaranteed their contracts if they’re on the roster for week 1. So we may add someone like this at the beginning of week 2.

Keeping two punters is like a fantasy team keeping two kickers.

We both could very well be right. One was Plan A and the other Plan B.

They must be really impressed with him and want to somehow keep him around for when Morestead retires. With the expanded game day roster I don't think his spot on the roster will have much of a negative impact!

Isn't the new punter a two-way guy? If we lose Lutz or Moorestead to injury/COVID, we got a guy in house ready to roll.

That’s a good question... In the small amount of “research” I did on Gillikin, I only saw that he is a Punter that can also take on kick-off duties... he also has the potential to sport a world-class mullet.

However, I didn’t see anything that stated that he kicks FGs or XPs.

I voted keeping two punters but it's more surprising than baffling. I get it, supposedly he can do all the kicking duties so is good in the backup role. He's certainly is very talented from all reports (and young and cheap). This is a smart year to have a backup specialist. Just surprising to see two punters on the roster.

Would be interesting to see if they get some kind of trade somewhere down the line by a desperate team that gets an injury.

Thought someone wrote about him handling the other kicking duties. I'll try to dig up the article. I might be misremembering and it was just kickoff duties.

Edit: Looks like I could only find mention of punting, holding and kickoffs at Saints camp. He did place kicking in high school and there was talk about him doing it in college. Never did it in a game.

I think Loomis knew Gillikin would have been picked up if waived yesterday. I expect him to end up as a protected PS player after Washington gets off COVID list. Notice they signed 15 to PS, leaving a spot open
