I think wanted to promote the white race as being superior. It was all about hate back then. Today they make a few good points but not enough for people to listen.

The KKK was organized by former Confederate soldiers right after the civil war. It began as a social club for veterans but quickly became a focus for violent Southern resistance to 'Radical' Reconstruction.

While they were started to resist carpet baggers and the like (along with intimidating blacks) the fact that their methods were violent from the onset take away their ability to be viewed in anything resembling a positive light.
