Question When do you think Brees will anounce his retirement. (1 Viewer)

I think this is closer to reality than not. Brees at this point is better than Manning was in 2015 and the defense isn't as dominate as the Broncos 2015 defense, but it may only be a couple pieces and some development/continuity from being very close.
Sadly he’s about the same level as 2015 Manning, but I would not waste another draft pick to keep him playing. If he doesn’t want to retire, then he needs to be told to retire by CSP or go somewhere else.

You know before the SB Payton said they expected something within a week. It's been 2 weeks, almost 3 now.

Maybe the restructure was the thing he was referring to?!

I do wonder if the Saints and Drew are treading lightly here to avoid the NFL doing anything to take away the benefits of the restructure.

Last year, they intentionally waited until after the comp pick deadline date to sign Jameis, even though they had already agreed to a handshake deal. NFL told them nope, and now we likely won’t get a comp pick for losing AJ Klein because of it.

So I wonder if they’re just making sure that an “announcement” before June 1st won’t mess with the money we are going to save on this year’s cap.

As weird as it may sound, the longer I go without hearing an official announcement, the more I think there's a chance he returns for 1 more season.

I understand there are a lot of people that don't want this, and also understand that the pay cut makes retirement seem like a sure thing.

How he physically feels in June is probably going to be a lot different than how he's feeling right now.

Having said all that, the initial clues have certainly pointed toward a retirement. But until I hear the announcement, I'm not going to blindly assume anything.

Didn’t the new cap come out today? It’ll take Loomis a few days to figure it all out and then we’ll see how it all works out.

What came out today was the minimum the cap will be. They are still likely a couple of weeks from announcing the final figure.

I really think he would now that he’s more than financially set. I think chasing and getting a second ring is more important than money to him now.

Respectfully...that's an unbelievably unrealistic expectation. He would be passing up more money in that one year than you or I will see in our lifetimes. Even the amount he gave up in his contract restructure is below market value for him. In fact, it was unbelievable that Jameis took that same amount of money to be a backup. Heck, Chase Daniels made a ton more than that to be a backup. Compound that with the fact that he has a huge salary waiting for him as a broadcaster.

If in your early 60s your boss said, 'Hey you've had a great career and made lots of money. I know you're thinking about retiring soon. Want to work for free for the next year before you retire?' you'd laugh in his face. He would be passing up orders of magnitude more money...to work insanely hard, get physically beat up, to try to win again at a year older with a depleted roster due to the salary cap. That's an absolutely bonkers notion.
