In the least surprising news of the day, the New Orleans Saints have the NFL’s top-rated offense.

The Saints rank second in passing offense and seventh in rushing offense. The Saints rank 21st in total defense (fifth against the run and 28th against the pass).

Rankings for the other NFC South teams include:

Atlanta is No. 17 in total offense (15th rushing and 17th passing). Defensively, the Falcons rank 22nd (20th against the run and 18th against the pass).

Carolina’s offense ranks 21st (14th rushing and 24th passing). The Panthers rank 15th in total defense (they’re tied for 28th against the run and third against the pass).

Believe it or not, Tampa Bay has a top-five offense. The Bucs rank fourth overall (13th rushing and sixth passing). But Tampa Bay’s defense is the main reason the Bucs are winless. The Bucs rank 31st overall (tied for 28th against the run and 27th against the pass).

What is sad is The Saints and Falcons are probably the best in the NFC. I hope we come out on top. Home Field advantage could be the difference.

This is totally meaningless after two games. Technically the Falcons are ahead of the Saints as they beat a division rival, but that is only because we have not played anybody in the division. Beating a division rival really have the effect of two wins (but only against that division opponent).

According to a list of the standings, they are ahead of the Saints because Atlanta is alphabetically before New Orleans.
