Who’s the Saints interim HC if/when a firing occurs? (1 Viewer)

Kubiak could be the HC candidate who was brought in to replace DA if he couldn't turn the team around.
Good question

Everything I hear about him is that he's more like a career coordinator than head coach. Got a dead pan personality and his resume kind of screams high floor/low ceiling.

I mean... We won't be good for the next two seasons. So, I don't have any problems with it. Maybe he can figure it out and become elite.

I'm trying to research anything on Kubiak and one of the best indicator is former players. I'm not finding anything.

He had people in Minnesota wanting him to get fired.

So, I think if you fire Dennis now. It's a lose-lose situation, because we are 3 years away from being able to fully support financially.

I'll be honest... Not the greatest. You may be better off keeping Dennis for another year and eating deadcap.
If we're going to sit on a coach for another year, it's got to be Darren Rizzi. He may end up being the next John Harbaugh before his career is over. He's certainly the closest thing we have to a Dan Campbell intense type coach. Fire DA, grab a new DC.

I'm okay with Rizzi. He's a good coach.

The Rizzi idea is an interesting direction I had not considered. Elevate him to HC, keep Kubiak and hire a DC to take the reigns from Allen. It's not a bad idea; certainly realistic. I would put that situation on a short three year max leash and see if Rizzi can get it done. They need to clear up the cap next year and part ways with Carr after the 2025 season.

That can happen tomorrow. Joe Woods is the DC and can do that job and Rizzi has assistants that can run Special Teams on a week where we are unlikely to practice in any significant way.

Promote Rizzi. Hey promoting a ST coach to HC worked out for Baltimore

I mentioned this in another thread but if a change were to happen, I think promoting Rizzi could be a good direction to go. He’s been mentioned as an HC candidate and seems to be highly thought of. Kubiak can continue focusing on the offense and Woods is an experienced DC.

Even better if this happened sooner than later and the Saints had a chance to see what they have with guys already on staff, but from a different perspective.

I think a side question is who else will be competing for a new coach and where do the Saints rank?
The Jets are already in.
Dallas, Philly might.
Jacksonville.
Cleveland. Those are my guesses.
I’d say we’re near the bottom of that list in attractiveness. No real guaranteed future at any position and no money to fix it.

Ben Johnson

Can't get Campbell, minus well pluck someone from his coaching tree.

I'm not sure I like the idea, but I would bet that Aaron Glenn would get another interview and he may be ready to be HC. I'd rather Ben Johnson, but I'm not sure what kept him in Detroit this year.
