NFL.com says hollis thomas is appealing the suspension. So does that meen he can play this week???

The suspension was in August, IIRC. This was the appeal.

Correct. The comment from nfl.com was actually:

Thomas, backed by the team, appealed the suspension, which he said was caused by using asthma medication.

Note the past tense...

The appeals process is always completed before the suspension is actually levied. Just the way the system works.

Nope, its all said and done. he will be elgibile to return on Jan 1, 2007

"Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas was suspended Tuesday for the final four games of the regular season for violating the league's steroid policy. Thomas plans to appeal the suspension, which he believes was caused by his use of asthma medication. "

this story is from today, that story was from the 5th

umm that doesnt look like past tense to me?

I can understand the confusion, though. Had the writer included "had" -- "had appealed," readers wouldn't infer "has," -- "has appealed."

Unfortunately, it's been widely reported that Thomas already appealed and lost. I'd like to believe this latest statement is accurate -- and I'm not in a position to say it can't possibly be -- but I'm inclined to believe it is erroneous.

Again, the appeals process happens before the suspension is levied. Not after. I hope you're right. I just do not think that will be the case.

And had you cited that link in your first post to show what article you were posting about, I would not have disagreed with you the way I did. I would have said it a bit differently. :ezbill:

That story is also a wire report meaning it came from the AP, Just because it was on NFL.com does not make it official. Thomas has appealed the decision, he has stated he lost the appeal, Payton has said he lost the appeal and NFL officials have stated he lost the appeal. He lost the appeal.

So what are you saying? He lost the appeal?

wasn't his agent quoted in the Times Pic today as saying that he argued the appeal but lost?

how come it took till the last four games of the season for the nfl to make a move on this, and against dallas smells like a jerry jones push behind the scenes, the defense is going to have to pull together and play there best football, i think the offense will be fine and can go toe to toe with the dallas defense,
