Why didn't the Saints wait to IR Hoomanawuni? (2 Viewers)

Hooman was carted off. I did not expect to see him back in 2016. Usually if an injury is bad enough that player can't even walk with assistance, that's a season ending injury.

I just asked Mike Triplett on Twitter why Bud Dupree, who was placed on IR today, can return midseason, but Hoomanawuni cannot return from IR. He replied that according to his understanding of the rule, starting today a player who is IR'd is eligible to return. So, do we know how serious Hoomanawuni's injury was, because it didn't seem that severe? And if it wasn't, why didn't we wait until today to place him on IR? Nick Underhill also replied to me by saying that the rule is kind of unclear and that he was seeking clarity on it.

Maybe they just didn't want to waste a roster spot to make a move like that.

Maybe he has an injury significant enough to not be back this season.

I like the designated to come back rule except for only being able to use on one player.
