Why is this team always so turnover prone? (2 Viewers)

Honestly i dont believe that unless other teams just turn the ball over 4 times per game.
It's not a debatable point for you to believe or not. It's a statistical fact.

Another fact: Drew Brees has thrown for double digit interceptions every year of his career with the exception of 2004. He isn't afraid to take a risk, and it works out in his favor at an overwhelmingly positive clip.

Fleener has hands of stone. He wasn't trying to make a move, he simply never cleanly caught the ball.

Yeah, well except for the fact that he did catch the ball cleanly and as he turned, the defender put the crown of his helmet directly on the ball with a perfect hit.

No one could of held onto that ball in that situation.

lol some people in STRONG denial here...

Brees may be the best of all time, but he definitely gets rattled against physical teams. Anybody who denies that is blind. His feet look like a jack rabbit, and he frantically looks around and panics into bad decisions early on. It's just fact. He's able to overcome it and play like himself later, but watch the beginnings of any of those games, he looks like a rookie. It's why we struggle to ever beat those teams.

Last night, Snead was WIDE OPEN in the flat, and would have picked up the first down. Held onto the ball too long looking for a big play and fumbled.

Come on man !. . . . Maybe it is more realistic to say that our receivers don't get open against physical teams and alligator arm catches. Drew has to do this stuff to remain healthy and keep this team at least near competitive. Remember when Jimmy was here he was notorious for this, he would get abused by the tougher defenses . . . and have a field day vs, the weak teams. This has always been the way with Sean Payton coached teams. We just played the two SB teams the past two weeks. . . . and almost won both games. These loses are both on special teams. Our field position has been pathetic and our kicking game has been horrible.

Lets not blame Brees here, he is the one that keeps us in these games. He can't score on every drive, that just isn't realistic.

Except when he's the one fumbling the ball or throwing interceptions. It goes both ways. Drew is by far the best player on the team, but he does make bad decisions and bad throws from time-to-time. To pretend he's perfect just isn't realistic.

outside of the magical 2009 season, the saints have either fared close to even or slightly in the negative

2006 -8
2007 -6
2008 -3
2009 +14
2010 -6
2011 -6
2012 +1
2013 -3
2014 -13
2015 +1
2016 0

outside of 2009 and 2014, the turnover ratio has not been a great help or a back breaker for this team

with the aggressiveness of this offense throwing the ball, you can live with a -6 turnover ratio for the season

the cumulative average since 2006 is just a tad over -2.5 per season, and if you take out the high and low, it is almost exactly -2.5

Over the past 4 seasons, Brees is averaging 13 interceptions a season, down from 16 interceptions a season he averaged from 2006-2012. That is roughly 2 % of his passes, which would be considered excellent relatively speaking with the rest of the league. He averaged a 2.6 % interception rate during the first 7 seasons as a Saint.

I will stand by my previous statement that the defense simply needs to cause more turnovers.

oh gosh you couldn't tell that he was having an issue collecting the ball? yikes.

td to interception ratio is the best indicator to support your statement and in NFL history only 2 QBs have been significantly better than Brees during his career (those with at least 125 starts)

1. Rodgers..... 3.88
2. Brady......... 2.91
3. Young........ 2.17
4. Manning.... 2.15
5. Brees......... 2.13

By years end, Brees is projected to be at 2.16, 2.20 after the 2017 season and right at 2.25 after 2018 based on the upward trend of this passing game.

By the end of his career I project his average per 16 games will be:

33 TDs
14.5 Ints

for a 2.28 td to interception ratio

Keep in mind that Brady and especially Rodgers have taken drive killing sacks at a higher rate than Drew has, so even their significant advantage in this category is tempered by the difference in sack percentage. Even much more dramatic for someone like Russell Wilson (almost double the sack rate of Brees) who has a near 3.0 average td to int ratio but does not have enough games played to be included in this list.

If you play a boring no chances taken offense (see Carl Smith) then you generally don't get turnovers. If you have an offense like this which pushes a defense you take chances to make plays. For each incredible play there are a few huh? Plays also. Pick your choice

one produced 6 playoff wins and a super bowl trophy, the other went 0-4

I will let the good people decide
