Why is this team always so turnover prone? (1 Viewer)

Listen... I love me some Drew Brees, but if Drew has one fault its he REFUSES to take an incompletion. The only time he throws the ball away under pressure is when its a designed screen, and he throws it tyo the ground.

Any other time he's under pressure he tries to squeeze a throw into a heavily-contested receiver. Sometimes he completes them. Most times its incomplete, and other times its a pick. Gotta be more careful with the ball.

Spot-on. And as some of the other posters pointed out, Brees does and always has a tendency to force throws when he starts to get hit by a tough physical defense.

If we go back to 2006-2008, we could all see when Brees was too amped-up in the beginning of games. Antzy in the pocket, happy feet and forced throws. At Shoal Creek we knew that Brees was about to throw a pick-6. SP really worked with and coached up Brees in the area. He's still one of the best of all time

I feel the problem is other teams get a ton of picks when our receivers are going over the middle and the ball gets jarred out and lands in a safety or linebackers arms. However on the other side of the ball, we see deflected balls fly up in the air only to fall haplessly to the turf.
This. It's like whenever the Saints are on offense, the ball has a magnet that draws it to the defender. And when the Saints are on defense, the ball has an anti-magnet that repels it from all defenders.

Yes, we've been creating more turnovers, but we never get the sheer inordinate amount of luck, especially on interceptions, that other teams consistently get against us. I get so sick of a pass being dropped or tipped and going right into a defender's hands.

Brees is near the bottom of super bowl winning QBs
Montana
Brady
Aikman
Starr
Staubach
Manning
Favre
Bradshaw
Rodgers

He's probably 10th on this list, he would be ahead of Elway and the likes of Simms, Theisman, Plunkett, Dawson, Unitas, Young(because of one ring), and for the time being Big Ben, Eli(both have more rings). Notice who he's behind and who he's ahead of. Among those considered legends, he's simply near the bottom.

I can't believe some people here are still blaming the defense. We are not a top five defense and not close.

lol some people in STRONG denial here...

Brees may be the best of all time, but he definitely gets rattled against physical teams. Anybody who denies that is blind. His feet look like a jack rabbit, and he frantically looks around and panics into bad decisions early on. It's just fact. He's able to overcome it and play like himself later, but watch the beginnings of any of those games, he looks like a rookie. It's why we struggle to ever beat those teams.

Last night, Snead was WIDE OPEN in the flat, and would have picked up the first down. Held onto the ball too long looking for a big play and fumbled.

We have got to be one of the most turnover prone teams every year. Why cant we protect the ball better? Is our offense being too finesse? Even when we run we cant hold onto it. We muff punts, we get kicks blocked. We turn the ball over way way way way way way way way too much!!!

.

Pretty much a LACK of SITUATIONAL AWARENESS!

For instance, putting little emphasis on getting the 1st down as opposed to trying for the Hero Play which usually puts the player in a position of little ball security.

And seemingly a total lack of understanding of how devastating GIVE AWAYS are - esp in the NFL.

For instance, Fleener HAD THE 1ST DOWN inside the 10yd line.

All he has to do is FALL DOWN with the ball.

But no, he is more interested in MAKING A MOVE instead of SECURING THE DANG BALL.

Brees is the best because he has to work MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH harder for his completions than sny other qb and that is always overlooked.
Know why he moves around a lot? HE CANT SEE OVER D LINEMEN. Thats a gigantic factor here. He isnt given the benefit of height or he would literally be unstoppable.

The problem is not the offense turnng it over took much, it is the defense not getting enough turnovers. So it accentuates when the offense does turn it over.

Teams have started to figure us out.

We can longer get by with a patchwork offensive line, 1 serious threat at WR and a average RB (Ingram), and a soft TE.

DCs are also probably telling the players to lay the wood when we have the ball in our hands. They look at film and see all the drops, fumbles, etc.

Serious question: Who are you considering the one serious threat at WR? And why not the others?

Not sure i'd blame coaching. These guys need hold themsevles accountable. Hang on to the damn ball. With Drew, he's going to have his mistakes. I just hope he can keep them to a minimum.

Fleener has hands of stone. He wasn't trying to make a move, he simply never cleanly caught the ball.
