Why not move Carl Nicks to tackle and Nesbit to guard? (1 Viewer)

Nicks is too slow to be a LT is the NFL. The faster DEs would run right by him and sack the QB. Sure he would win battles when they ran the ball to his side but the QB would be on his back side all day.

Nicks is a good guard, we should not change the ability to dominate the middle with Evans and Nicks. It is also easier to compensate for Bushrod or Streif playing tackle by using a TE or RB to help block on that side. If you put Nicks at T that just weakens the middle and it is more difficult to assist in the pass blocking there.

Keep Nicks at guard, he's mauling people there.
Worst case scenario, Strief fills that spot. I'm comfortable with that.

Bushrod will be fine. The 'guy off the street' is going to be a back up RT, as Stief is the back up LT now.
Nicks would need a lot of work to be a LT at this level, he is just getting the guard position down.
This is exactly the reason why Nesbit is so highly regarded and resigned, much to the dismay of several. His versatility makes him a great addition. In 2006, he was slated to be the starter at RT because of the lack of playing time/injuries to Stinch. He can play any position on the line, but would struggle at LT. Versatility, and cheap versatility is great thing to have and opens up so many possibilities if the injury bug bites the O-line. I am sure he is the back up at both guard spots. He is number 3 at RT and can go to 2nd is Strief has to play LT in a pinch.

there are quite a few guards in the NFL that were tackles in college, alot of right tackles in the NFL that were left tackles in college. Obviously are staff thinks Nicks is more suited to play guard than anything else at the moment.

Nicks played OT in college, but does not have enough quickness or agility to play the position in the pros. He's turned out to be an excellent guard. His game is power, not finesse. Why move him to tackle unless there's a rash of injuires at the OT position?

But can he catch punts? ... maybe.
