Could the inclusion of Ryan be one more dig at Gregg Williams and less about an actual replacement?

Ryan obviously comes from the 46 Buddy Ryan tree, the same tree as Williams. He also possesses some of those same traits that we have learned rubbed Payton the wrong way, an inevitably got us into hot water. Why would the Saints consider bringing in the 34 version of Gregg Williams?

It seems to me that mentioning him as a candidate creates a decent subterfuge and detracts attention from some of the candidates we are really interested in. Besides, you know it had to get under Williams' craw seeing his buddy mentioned as a possible DC for the Saints.

He does make sense. Our defensive unit is still built for Gregg Williams system. We are only one year removed and the only additions are a linemen (the easiest position to transition) and a press cover cornerback.

This would be perfect for our veteran players because of their experience in the system. The only personnel problem is creating two point pass rushers.

i think the connection between rob ryan and gregg williams is fair.....but i think we are bringing him in because of the positives of gregg williams systems

remember that cleveland had a pretty underrated defense while under ryan and neither the browns, nor the cowboys had an offense even close to as dangerous as ours

ryan isnt my first choice but i dont think hes a bad choice

I opened this thread expecting it to be about Matt Ryan.

Ryan has NEVER had a team go to the playoffs.

i dont think thats fair

hes been a DC for 3 of the most disorganized franchises in all of sports

there are lots of coaches that have gone through those franchises without even a winning record, let alone a playoff appearance

I've been wondering whatever became of Bill Kuharich.
